IPX & SPX Custom Controls For Visual Basic 3.0 & Windows 3.1 ----------------------------------- Version 2.02 June 14, 1993 This document covers important installation and configuration information. This is a shareware distribution of IPX & SPX Custom Controls. IPX & SPX Custom Controls are for use with Microsoft Visual Basic and Visual C++. With these controls you may create applications that can communicate as clients and/or servers on Novell NetWare networks. With the shareware version of these controls, you cannot load the controls in the development environment (VB.EXE). Please READ!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The 2.0x versions of IPX.VBX and SPX.VBX are deliberately incompatible with the 1.x version of the controls. There were several nasty bugs in the first controls which were resolved in this version. Please replace any 1.x version of these controls with this version and double check your properties in the development environment. Otherwise, you may experience strange behavior, or GP Faults. Version 2.00 has corrected several bugs, notably a GP Fault in allocating memory for the ECBs. Another important feature is allowing multiple instances of the controls. Installation Directions --------------------------------- Create a subdirectory on your hard drive and copy the zip file into it. Unzip the files using the -d option to create the subdirectories for the three example applications. Copy IPX.SPX and SPX.VBX into the \WINDOWS\SYSTEM subdirectory. The sample applications can then be run by double-clicking on the executables in File Manager, or by using the File/Run option in Program Manager. *********************** Important Program Notes *********************** The IPX.VBX and SPX.VBX require that the workstation be set up as a NetWare client. This involves loading IPX.COM or IPXODI.COM before starting Windows. The following lines should be included in the SYSTEM.INI file to properly load network components for Windows. [386Enh] network=*vnetbios,vipx.386,vnetware.386 [boot] network.drv=netware.drv The example applications also require the NetWare requester (NETX or VLM) be loaded before starting Windows. The applications make several calls through the requester and NWCALLS.DLL to locate other users on the network. ************ Registration ************ To receive technical support, bug fixes, and upgrades, please register your product.
