Contents ============================================================ Part Description ---- ----------- 1 Software Installation Information 2 Miscellaneous Notes and Tips 3 How to create a distribution diskette Part 1: Software Installation Information ============================================================ Before installing EZ-EIS you should make backup copies of all the distribution diskettes. Also, ensure that the Windows directory, including drive letter, is in your PATH. If the drive letter is not included in your PATH statement, EZ-EIS will be unable to determine where Windows resides. SETUP.EXE is a Windows application; that is, it is run from Windows, rather than from the DOS prompt. SETUP.EXE will only run in Windows Standard or Enhanced mode. It will not run in Real mode. You can determine how Windows is configured on your computer by choosing About from the Help menu in the Program Manager. To install EZ-EIS, use Program Manager or File Manager to start SETUP.EXE as you would any other Windows application. For example, if you are installing from drive A: 1. From the Program Manager File menu, choose Run. 2. In the Run dialog box, type A:SETUP and choose OK. Some of the files on these disks may be compressed and must be expanded before they can be used. For EZ-EIS to work properly, you must install the files using SETUP.EXE. You cannot simply copy the files to your hard disk. Some problems you may encounter while installing EZ-EIS: 1. If other Visual Basic programs are running, the DLL's and VBX's may be locked preventing updating. Stop other applications before the installation process. It may be necessary to restart Windows and install EZ-EIS before running other applications. 2. If you have DLL and VBX files 'copied' into the \Windows directory in addition to the \Windows\System directory the installation of EZ-EIS will duplicate these files to ensure that the latest versions are available. The correct directory for these files is \Windows\System. 3. NOTE: this problem should be corrected with the latest version of SETUP.EXE from Microsoft which is included in in this setup kit. If your system already has a later version of the SETUPKIT.DLL, VER.DLL or VBRUN300.DLL (later than the version of the file distributed with EZ-EIS) the installation may terminate before it's completed. This situation will require manual intervention. One option would be to rename the file already installed on your system, and then rename it back after the installation. Part 2: Miscellaneous Notes and Tips ============================================================ 1. Use the TOUR to get familiar with the application. You can use the TOUR with the application running and compare the two. 2. Please read the license agreement. 3. Please register and let us know what you like about EZ-EIS; and what could be better. Part 3: How to create a distribution diskette ============================================================ If you received this application electronically (via a BBS) and want to share it with others via a diskette, then: 1. Load the EZ0120.EXE file into an empty directory. 2. Run it to extract all of the files. A self-extracting file is distributed. 3. Delete EZ0120.EXE. 4. Compress all of the files except SETUP.EXE, SETUP.LST, README.TXT, EZEIS.INI. The distributed files will not fit on a 3 1/2", 1.44mb diskette unless they are first compressed. 5. Copy all of the files to an empty diskette (3 1/2", 1.44MB). This will take about 1360kb. These steps will create a diskette that will install EZ-EIS when SETUP.EXE is started. Make as many copies as you like, and feel free to pass this application along to as many people as you like - in accordance with the license agreement. You may also order diskettes directly from Sierra Software. Please see the order form (Orderfrm.wri) for current pricing. Thank you!
