The WORD60A.EXE file you just downloaded and expanded contains the Microsoft Word version 6.0a for Windows upgrade patch. This upgrade can be used ONLY with the U.S. version of Word 6.0 for Windows on a stand-alone installation. CAUTIONS ======== Do not attempt to use the patch for either a workstation or server network installation. Please call the Microsoft Consumer Sales and Information Center at (800) 426-9400 and request a full set of upgrade disks if you want to perform an upgrade on a network installation. Do not attempt to use this patch to upgrade ANY international version of Word for Windows, including the English/British or English/Australian version. We will post new information in the MSWORD forum News Flash as upgrade patches become available for these versions. INSTRUCTIONS ============ To upgrade your U.S. version of Word for Windows using the patch, follow these steps: 1. Create an empty directory on your hard drive (for example C:\6PATCH). 2. Copy the files SETUP.BAT and _MSETUP.EX_, expanded from WORD60A.EXE, to the empty directory. 3. Run SETUP.BAT by double-clicking it in File Manager, or by doing the following: a. In the Windows Program Manager window, choose Run from the File menu. b. In the Command Line box, type "\setup" (without the quotation marks) where is the location of the temporary directory you created in step 1 above. For example, type "c:\6patch\setup". c. Choose OK. This will expand the Word 6.0a patch files to your temporary directory. Note: Running SETUP.BAT does not perform the upgrade. It simply prepares for the upgrade by creating two subdirectories, HELP and REG, then expanding the files required to perform the upgrade. 4. Open UPGRADE.DOC in Word 6.0 and read the instructions before performing the actual upgrade procedure. Also, consider printing a copy of UPGRADE.DOC to refer to during the upgrade procedure. UPGRADE.DOC contains troubleshooting procedures you may need to use if you encounter any difficulties performing the upgrade. 5. Perform the upgrade procedure as specified in UPGRADE.DOC. 6. After you successfully upgrade to Word 6.0a, you can delete the temporary patch directory, created in step 1, and its contents.
