Document 0579 DOCN M94A0579 TI Management of extensive oral Kaposi's sarcoma. DT 9412 AU Sherson W; St Vincents Medical Centre, Darlinghurst, N.S.W. SO Annu Conf Australas Soc HIV Med. 1993 Oct 28-30;5:97 (poster no. 44). Unique Identifier : AIDSLINE ASHM5/94349076 AB A 29 year old male homosexual with stage IV HIV infection presented with extensive bilateral KS involving the hard palate and occluding the palatal airspace. Clinical management involved a combined therapy approach including chemotherapy (vincristine bleomycin), surgical de-bulking, radiotherapy and electrocautery over a 10 month period. The case illustrates the difficulty in treating and obtaining remission of large oral KS lesions as well as the many side effects of these therapies. Early intervention by excision (surgical, laser or electrocautery) or sclerosing agents (3% sodium tetradecyl sulfate) could afford significant benefits to both the clinician and the patient in the management of oral KS.
