Document 0601 DOCN M94A0601 TI Epidemiology of Qld HIV and AIDS patients. DT 9412 AU Magon H; Ree GH; Kennedy J; Cornell V; AIDS Medical Unit, Brisbane. SO Annu Conf Australas Soc HIV Med. 1993 Oct 28-30;5:86 (poster no. 23). Unique Identifier : AIDSLINE ASHM5/94349054 AB Long term patient HIV data was divided into 3 groups based on their current CD4 count. The results survey the epidemiological differences between groups and focus on differences between current and initial CD4 levels. Little data has been published on CD4 counts. Surveying Qld patients diagnosed with AIDS post 1/1/89 showed a higher survival rate (40% after 4 years) compared with pre 1/1/89 patients (11.9% after 4 years). Both curves are negative exponential with level cut-off periods of 24 months and 48 months respectively and exhibits an interesting group displaying extended longevity. A survey of Qld AIDS patients survival times prior and post 30/6/87, a date approximating Australian AZT introduction, was compared against Australian figures. Results showed significantly lower Qld survival times which is attributed to the late introduction/uptake of AZT into Qld.
