SO Annu Conf Australas Soc HIV Med. 1993 Oct 28-30;5:46 (abstract no. SE2). Unique Identifier : AIDSLINE ASHM5/94348983 AB This study examines the range of ambulatory care services provided to people with HIV, or screened for HIV. It involved a 2 or 3 week prospective data collection of services provided on an ambulatory basis at 14 hospitals and clinics, including one private general practice. Data for ambulatory consultations, HIV screening services and same day patients were included. Detailed demographic, clinical and treatment information (including CD4 cell count, Centres for Disease Control HIV surveillance category, level of disability, diagnostic tests ordered, treatment procedures conducted and data on medications) was captured for each client presentation. Apart from the development of a visit-based casemix classification, the analysis has allowed us to build a unique profile of clients being treated in ambulatory care, as well as describing the utilisation of clinician care and ancillary services. Major findings of the study, of interest both from the perspective of clinical medicine and HIV Clinical Unit management, will be presented.
