OBJECTIVES: To train HIV positive persons to: exercise mutual support, reduce the negative impact of AIDS; assist other infected persons to lead a positive life. METHODS: Five HIV positive persons received an individual training in counselling. Within a ten month period they have been working with our counselling unit. RESULTS: After an individual training, three of the five HIV positive persons are really active. We have noticed an improvement of the care given to AIDS patients in the families followed by those HIV positive counsellors. CONCLUSION: We want to extend this experience in our counselling program.
