METHOD: Special service clinics established initially in Newark and Camden provided only urgent dental care to AIDS patients. When financial resources were increased by city, state, and federal agencies, comprehensive dental care was provided. Treatment plans were modified for AIDS patients based on general systemic health. RESULTS: In order to quantitate the difference between dental procedures performed on cohorts of 492 AIDS and 100 non-AIDS patients, the following statistical data were obtained: TABULAR DATA, SEE ABSTRACT VOLUME. DISCUSSION AND CONCLUSION: Our results show that inner-city AIDS patients are equally receptive to complete care as non-AIDS patients. Providing this type of care will enhance function, nutrition and quality of life for AIDS patients.
