PD0115). Unique Identifier : AIDSLINE ICA10/94370456 AB OBJECTIVE: To examine the risky behaviours that transmit HIV infection in women with special reference to Uganda. METHOD: 1) Interpersonal discussion with 165 women of different tribes and religions who are HIV positive and registred with TASO Mulago over a period of 2 years. 2) Through my counselling experience for the last three years in TASO Mulago-Uganda. RESULTS: Although there is broad knowledge about the AIDS epidemic, Sociocultural behavious influencing HIV transmission in women have not been modified. CONCLUSION: In view of my counselling experience and the interpersonal discussions held with HIV positive women in TASO Mulago, I conclude that efforts to control the epidemic should be focused on modification of sexual behaviour and abandoning risky cultural norms--through sensitizing the public.
