SO Int Conf AIDS. 1994 Aug 7-12;10(1):356 (abstract no. PD0030). Unique Identifier : AIDSLINE ICA10/94370364 AB OBJECTIVE: With 30 years' experience in promotion of sex education and educational materials, I currently give AIDS education at schools and institutions for the handicapped. I wish to display many original materials developed to suit different sexual development stages and suggest how to prepare more effective AIDS education materials. METHODS: Displays of AIDS education materials, classroom activity photos, simulated teachings, and other various methods can be employed. If time allows, I wish to present slides and video tapes which show the marvelous response from Japan's school children to teaching of AIDS. RESULTS: The maximum educational benefit is obtained by use of materials especially fitted to the psychological and sexual developmental stages of the audience, i.e., discussion on the immune system, use of the condom, protecting AIDS patients' human rights, participation in AIDS projects, etc. AIDS educational materials developed for the mentally retarded may also be useful. DISCUSSION AND CONCLUSION: The many AIDS education materials developed by myself and my staff have been improved through actual use. They may inspire the participants from many countries in developing more effective materials. Evaluation of the materials based on practical use seems quite important in future deliberations on AIDS education.
