Document 2213 DOCN M94A2213 TI What interest has public health in business related AIDS prevention in APEC? DT 9412 AU Kimball AM; University of Washington, Seattle 98195. SO Int Conf AIDS. 1994 Aug 7-12;10(1):355 (abstract no. PD0028). Unique Identifier : AIDSLINE ICA10/94370362 AB OBJECTIVES: 1) Establish the level of interest among public health workers in APEC member countries in networking with their counterparts in business to discuss AIDS prevention, 2) Describe the level of awareness of these selected public health workers of business related initiatives in their countries and communities, and 3) Solicit comments from these individuals about other innovative public health AIDS prevention approaches being put into place. MATERIALS AND METHODS: An initial polling was carried out of 55 individuals, identified through international agencies, from fifteen APEC countries. Questionnaires were provided in English and in the four other working written languages of APEC. Additional polling is now underway based on referrals from this core. RESULTS: Although polling is ongoing as this abstract is being submitted, 40% of questionnaires were returned in the first three weeks of work. Preliminary results suggest that 1) There is a strong level of interest among these workers in networking with their counterparts in business and private enterprise, 2) There is a very limited experience of these workers with business initiatives which have been launched through business service organizations in the region, and 3) There are numerous pioneering strategies being mounted in AIDS prevention in the Asia Pacific region which augers well for the capacity to prevent a catastrophic HIV/AIDS epidemic. Further results will be included in the final analysis when polling is complete.
