Unique Identifier : AIDSLINE ICA10/94370361 AB OBJECT: It is very difficult to reach-out to the public in an individual way because AIDS is a very sensitive and stigmatised issue among the people here. To break the ice we planed to have the propaganda van where the public occur in large group. METHOD: In Madras the MARINA BEACH remains the main relaxation and meeting place for all the group of people. The Marina Beach is one of the main tourist spot, which has chosen for our mobile propaganda AIDS Awareness Program. A Doctor, Counsellor and few social workers were made available in the mobile van during the peak time of the crowd gathering. We usually distribute our health/STD/HIV education materials. The danger of HIV and other STDs as well as the need to use condom as a means of protection were explained by our counsellor. The minor ailment were treated then and there. CONCLUSION: A follow up study shows that this method has been effective and the message has reached the hard-to-reach public. Also it indicates an increased awareness about AIDs among the target population.
