Unique Identifier : AIDSLINE ICA10/94370284 AB OBJECTIVE: It is well known that HIV infection in cases of tuberculosis is gradually rising in Tropical Countries. The objective of this study is to analyse the reported cases from India whether this incidence is shared equally or not in different parts of this country. METHODS: From the documented and published cases from India so far made by different workers in this field the data have been analysed dividing India into four geographical zones namely Northern, Southern, Eastern and Western. RESULTS: The incidence of HIV infection has been observed to vary considerably. In Western part it is maximum (5.6%), next in order is Southern part (2.3%). The incidence is at its lowest (< 1%) in Northern and Eastern parts of India. DISCUSSION: Increased incidence of HIV infection in tuberculosis patients varies considerably in different geographical zones of India. However in all the areas the incidence of HIV infection in cases of tuberculosis is almost double (2.19%) in comparison to its incidence in general population. Further study is required to probe deeply into its cause if any.
