SO Int Conf AIDS. 1994 Aug 7-12;10(1):314 (abstract no. PC0186). Unique Identifier : AIDSLINE ICA10/94370181 AB OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the efficiency of preventive work with HIV-infected women by the results of microscopy of vaginal discharge. METHOD: Matte for microscopy resieved from 30 HIV-infected women with complaints about vaginal discharge. Mean age 32. Matte were coloured by methylene blue and by Gram. The number of leucocytes, presence of gonococcus, trichomonas, key cells, gram positive bacteriums, gram negative bacteriums and fungi were evaluated. Detection of chlamydiums in vaginal discharge was conducted with the Chlamiset. As a control group were 30 HIV-seronegative women, who anonymously apply to hospital with the complaints on vaginal discharge. Mean age 32. RESULTS: In the vaginal discharge of more then 70% women of both groups there was found total leucocytosis. In the group of HIV-infected women the frequency of the detection of rarely guantaty of gonococcus (24% and 70% accordingly), trichomonas (40% and 80%), chlamidiums (17% and 50%). In group of HIV-infected women and in the HIV-negative women the frequency of the detection of key cells (45% and 12% accordingly) and fungi (70% and 20%). There was not found any difference in detection of gram positive bacteriums and negative bacteriums in both groups. CONCLUSION: The lesser frequency of detection of gonococcus, trichomonas, chlamidiums in the vaginal discharge of HIV-infected women can be explained by effective preventive work of epidemiologists and the usage of condoms. High frequency of detection of fungi and key cells in vaginal discharge of HIV-infected women can be explained by the peculiarities of the microbes, causing vaginal infections in those patients.
