SO Int Conf AIDS. 1994 Aug 7-12;10(1):296 (abstract no. PC0113). Unique Identifier : AIDSLINE ICA10/94370102 AB OBJECTIVE: To assess the relationship between sexual assault and HIV positivity in adolescents and adults. METHODS: Prevalence data from 1992 national testing sites contain information concerning sexual assault. Sexual assault is reported as a risk category and may be present with other risk groups. Data of HIV positivity and sexual assault on pooled risk categories is depicted in the table below. TABULAR DATA, SEE ABSTRACT VOLUME. Thirteen (1.6%) of 821 males, and 51 (.4%) of 13,198 females who came for testing after sexual assault tested HIV positive. CONCLUSION: Sexual assault reports are highest for women. Although no significant relationship between HIV and sexual assault is apparent, prevalence data from all risk categories combined suggest that people reporting sexual assault may be more likely to test HIV positive.
