Unique Identifier : AIDSLINE ICA10/94369972 AB OBJECTIVE: To compare results from three different tests detecting infection with Chlamydia trachomatis (Chl. tr.) and to evaluate them in respect to clinical diagnosis for genital-localized infection. MATERIAL AND METHODS: Serum samples from 368 patients attending STD and gynecological clinics were examined for presence of anti-Chl. tr. antibodies in Chlamydia-IgG-EIA (Labsystems, Finland), parallelly with two antigen-detecting assays: Chlamydia-Ag-EIA (Labsystems) and Clearview (Unipath, UK). All patients, positive in any test were treated and followed up for three to five months. RESULTS: Before and after treatment, results obtained in antigen-tests coincided and often were contraversial to that of antibody-detecting test. DISCUSSION: The serological testing for Chl. tr.-antibodies seems not conclusive for diagnosis of genital infection and effect of treatment. When a positive result for antibody is found, a thorough clinical examination and antigen-test should be performed.
