Unique Identifier : AIDSLINE ICA10/94369581 AB OBJECTIVE: Double infection with HIV and HCV is commonly observed in hemophilia patients. Nevertheles, there are a few reports on the development of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) in these patients. We analyzed correlation between HIV infection and the development of HCC due to HCV infection. RESULTS: HCC developed in a 53-year-old male patient infected with HIV and HCV. He had liver dysfunction at 39 years old and diagnosed as non A non B hepatitis. Finally, it turned out that this liver dysfunction was due to HCV. Furthermore, HIV infection was found at 47 years old and now he is in the stage of CDC IV class. Although transcatheter arterial infusion (TAI) using lipiodol and epirubicin once reduced the primary tumor mass, another tumor developed 4 months later. CONCLUSIONS: Immunodeficiency due to HIV infection did not appear to shorten the time of HCC development, showing a natural course. In a clinical sence, precise examinations are required to find out the development of HCC at the initial stage.
