DT 9412 AU Ling C; Coleman L; Roach M; Wara W SO Int Conf AIDS. 1994 Aug 7-12;10(1):178 (abstract no. PB0137). Unique Identifier : AIDSLINE ICA10/94369580 AB OBJECTIVES: To determine the length of survival of patients with AIDS-related primary central nervous system lymphoma (PCNSL) after treatment with radiotherapy, and to determine whether length of survival (LOS) correlated with dose of radiotherapy, pre-treatment Karnofsky performance status (KPS), risk factors, age, CD4 counts, length of time since seroconversion, clinical response, radiological findings, pathology, chemotherapy or AIDS medications, clinical symptomatology or presence of other AIDS-related illnesses. METHODS: Using our diagnosis-based computer retrieval system all patients treated with radiotherapy for AIDS-related PCNSL between January, 1982 and January, 1994 were identified and their medical records were reviewed. Population characteristics, risk factors and LOS were analyzed. Statistical methodology included the Cox proportional hazards model and Kaplan-Meler survival curves. RESULTS: 57 patients were identified as having AIDS-related PCNSL. Although there was an eightfold increase of cases in the last six years of this study as compared with the first six years, this now appears to be levelling off. The average KPS score was 50. The median LOS was 3 months and did not appear to correlate significantly with any of the above factors except for KPS score. CONCLUSIONS: The outcome of AIDS-related PCNSL continues to be dismal despite improved general medical and supportive care.
