Archive-name: law/net-resources/part7 Version: 5.1 Last-modifed: 94/09/17 Distribution-agent: ldetweil@csn.org (This document has been brought to you in part by CRAM. See the bottom for more information, including instructions on how to obtain updates.) === This chapter describes law-related resources made available by US educational institutions. An organization in this chapter would most likely have a domain name ending in ".edu" (education). This chapter is divided into two sub-sections: 1) US law schools, 2) other US educational institutions. One of the best ways to find the e-mail address for a particular individual is to call that individual. If you choose to contact the individuals listed below via e-mail, please keep your e-mail message short and to-the-point. 3.1.00. Law Schools - Introduction. ABA-approved US and Puerto Rico law schools, with their Internet domain, are listed below. Non-ABA-approved law schools that are on the Internet are also listed. For schools that do not have an e-mail address listed, information should be available via e-mail at postmaster@domain.name, where "domain.name" is the domain shown below. For example, information about Samford University should be available via e-mail from postmaster@samford.edu. Some schools have made information available via a generic e-mail address, usually in the form of info@law.domain.name, which is set up to automatically reply to e-mail messages. I believe that the use of this type of "info" e-mail address combined with a "law" subdomain is a good idea, one that I hope to see catch on as a "de facto" standard. Gopher main menus and sub-menus are shown for some of the more well- known law school Gopher sites. Note how the following law schools have addressed some of the issues facing Gopher administrators in trying to make their Gopher sites easily-accessible and user-friendly: Case Western Reserve University (see Section 3.1.35.02) distinguishes, in part, between those resources that are hosted locally (for which it is primarily responsible) and links to resources hosted remotely (for which it is not primarily responsible). Cornell University (see Section 3.1.32.04) provides a means for giving feedback to the Gopher administrators and groups its resources into several categories, including US primary law, non-US law, and US administrative information. Temple University (see Section 3.1.38.03) provides date and file size information for its resources. Villanova University (see Section 3.1.38.06) has perhaps the most readable main menu, provides a means for giving feedback to the Gopher administrators and groups its resources into several categories, including US State Government information, US Federal Government information, and European/Canadian Government information. Note also how some Gopher sites (e.g. Chicago-Kent College of Law, see Section 3.1.13.02) are accessible as top-level sites at the University of Minnesota (and hence are easier to locate) while others are several sub-menus lower in the hierarchy. 3.1.01.00. The most recent version of this document can be obtained via the author's instructions at the beginning. The following directions apply to retrieve the possibly less-current USENET FAQ version. FTP --- This FAQ is available from the standard FAQ server rtfm.mit.edu via FTP in the file /pub/usenet/news.answers/law-net-resources Email ----- Send a message to mail-server@rtfm.mit.edu with the following lines: send usenet/news.answers/law/net-resources/part[n] send ... ... quit where [n] is 1-10. This document is being distributed under this arrangement. We have found these compilations tend to appear on various mailing lists and are valuable enough to deserve wider distribution. If you know of an existing compilation of Internet information that is not currently a FAQ, please contact us and we may `sponsor' it. The benefits to the author include: - use of the existing FAQ infrastructure for distribution: - automated mail server service - FTP archival - automated posting - a far wider audience that can improve the quality, accuracy, and coverage of the document enormously through email feedback - potential professional inquiries for the use of your document in other settings, such as newsletters, books, etc. - with us as your sponsor, we will also take care of the technicalities in the proper format of the posted version and updating procedures, leaving you free of the `overhead' to focus on the basic updates alone The choice of who we `sponsor' is entirely arbitrary. You always have the option of handling the submission process yourself. See the FAQ submission guidelines FAQ in news.answers.
