DT 9509 AU Casey KB; Albion Street Centre, Surry Hills, Sydney. SO Annu Conf Australas Soc HIV Med. 1994 Nov 3-6;6:74 (unnumbered abstract). Unique Identifier : AIDSLINE ASHM6/95291902 AB Community or welfare services are frequently unavailable to those without a formal AIDS Dementia Complex diagnosis (ADC). A number of strategies have been implemented to facilitate greater understanding of the psychosocial issues involved. A comprehensive research neuropsychological follow up register has been established, alongside with targeted education programs on HIV related brain impairment directed to persons living with HIV and their significant others, health professionals and general community welfare agencies. Disturbed behaviour and functional problems often present difficulties for care providers and most frequently difficulties in placing patients in residential facilities. A number of programs are discussed. As research demonstrates that both the percentage of HIV patients with ADC varies in different risk groups it is important that service delivery plans take this into account.
