Unique Identifier : AIDSLINE AIDS/95700241 AB Eric Larkins pleaded no contest to one felony and one misdemeanor charge after the jury was deadlocked and could not reach a verdict on a homicide charge for the beating death of a Topeka resident who was perceived to be gay. Larkins, 24, was sentenced to work with AIDS patients. The judge said working with AIDS patients may give Larkins a better understanding of gay people. If Larkins violates the community service requirement, he will be sent to prison for seven to nine months for the felony. A lesser term of six months would run concurrently for the misdemeanor.
