Notepad is a stand alone file, all that is needed to run notepad is NOTEPAD.EXE which adds to portability. Notepad works on almost any IBM PC or compatible. NOTEPAD Version 1.0 User's Guide Cursor Movement Notepad provides use of all cursor movement keys. CTRL+RIGHT ARROW Next word CTRL+LEFT ARROW Previous word HOME Beginning of a line END End of a line PAGE DOWN Next screen down PAGE UP Next screen up CTRL+HOME Beginning of document CTRL+END End of document The File Menu The File Menu has the basic file commands. New allows you to start a new document. Open lets you open a file on disk. Save and Save As let you save the file on the disk. Print prints the text to the printer. And exit quits the notepad and returns to DOS. The Edit Menu The Edit Menu also has the basic editing commands. Cut is used to cut out the selected area and place it onto the clipboard. Copy places a copy of the selected area onto the clipboard. Paste places the contents of the clipboard into your document. Delete clears the selected area. Select All highlights your whole document for editing. The clipboard retains its contents until notepad is exited or the text on the clipboard is replaced with other text. The Add and print clipboard features are only in the registered version. The add option adds the selected text to the clipboard without erasing the contents of the clipboard. The print clipboard option prints the contents of the clipboard to the printer. The Search Menu The Search Menu has three useful options to help you find and change certain text in your document. The find option asks you for text to find then highlights the text if the text was found. The repeat last find option does the same thing only it does not ask you for text, it searches for the text you entered previously. The change option allows you to change certain occurrences of text with other text. The registered version has the Change All and Find and Verify options. The Options Menu The Options Menu allows you to change the background and foreground color of the text box. All you have to do is enter the name of the color you want and press enter. The date and time commands tell you the date and time. The registered Version allows you to change the color of all the windows. The Info Menu The Info Menu is used only in the registered version. The registered version allows you to have many documents open at the same time. The new window command displays a new text box for another document. The cascade command overlaps all the windows leaving the title bar of each one visible. The tile option makes all windows visible on the screen. The full screen command brings the active window to full size.
