The user may function within the program in one of two ways, as an observer or as a player. In either function the user may chat with others in the program, however, as a player, the user may additionally play the casino game of blackjack with 6 other seated players and a dealer. ChatJack is the result of more than 1,000 hours of research and programming by the authors. The intent was to create a computer game that as closely as possible, simulated the casino game of BlackJack. While the current version appears to have achieved that goal, many more features and improvements are possible. ChatJack Set-Up ÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄ 1. Create a DOS directory for the game ie: MD C:\CHATJACK 2. Copy all files listed as 'required' in the new directory ie: PKUNZIP CHATJACK C:\CHATJACK 3. Create a menu entry in your SDL file ie: KEY=* TYPE=200 OPT DATA=C:\CHATJACK\CHATJACK /Q ^ ^ ^ ^ | | | |-don't | | | display | | | E-Soft | | | logo etc. | | |-chatjack | | TDBS program | |-directory | and path to TDBS program |-keyboard key used by user to select ChatJack program 4. Using an ASCII text editor, edit the file CJ.CTL to custom tailor ChatJack to your own personal preference using the comments shown in the CJ.CTL file to guide you through your set up. 5. Installation and set-up is now complete. Required Files ÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄ CHATJACK.TPG - The TDBS program POINTER.DBF - internal database file TRIGGER.DBF - internal database file PLAYERS.DBF - internal database file MEMBERS.DBF - internal database file CJSHELL.DBF - internal database file TXSHELL.DBF - internal database file MEMSHL.DBF - internal database file TABLE.ANS - ANSI screen file RULES.ANS - ANSI screen file CARDS.DAT - internal data file SYSOP.TXT - this file GAME.TPG - internal used by CHATJACK.TPG HELP.ANS - ANSI screen file INST.TXT - User instructions (DOS text file) ASR.ANS - ANSI screen file CJ.CTL - configuration file (DOS text file) Files Created By ChatJack: TR??.DBF - internal database file P??.DBF - internal database file P??.BUF - internal user file MEMBERS.NDX - database index file MEMBERS1.NDX - database index file where: ?? = users line number (00-64) Advanced Configuration ÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄ Modifying ASR.ANS Using a screen editor such as TheDraw, edit the file ASR.ANS being careful to keep the screen positioning within the confines currently defined. The ASR.ANS file is an ANSI file which will be displayed in the middle of the table layout for the game. You may modify the ASR.ANS file to depict your bbs initials or whatever text you would like to appear on the game table layout. Using a ram drive Performance for ChatJack will be greatly increased by placing the TPG and associated files in a DOS ram drive. To use a ram drive, place a command in your RUN.BAT file (batch file used to start your TBBS program) to copy the associated file from the hard drive directory to the ram drive directory. NOTE: you should create the ram drive directory from you AUTOEXEC.BAT file. All files listed as 'required' above should be placed in the ram drive directory excepting the MEMBERS.DBF file. The CJ.CTL file should contain the directory and path to the MEMBERS.DBF file located on your hard drive. IT IS *NOT* NECESSARY TO COPY *ANY* OF THE FILES LOCATED ON THE RAM DRIVE BACK TO YOUR HARD DRIVE - PROVIDING YOU MAINTAIN THE MEMBERS.DBF FILE ON YOUR HARD DRIVE AS SUGGESTED. Maintenance ÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄ There is no maintenance at present, required by the ChatJack program. Optionally you may want to zero the players bank for all players monthly or whenever you want all players to start off fresh. To zero the players bank, use a database utility such as DBU.EXE to modify the field within the MEMBERS.DBF file, the delete the MEMBERS*.NDX files. The ChatJack program will detect the missing .NDX files and rebuild them as necessary. Corrupted Database Files ÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄ Occasionally, but ever so seldom, some SysOps experience database file corruption. If the ChatJack index files ever become corrupt, simply delete the *.NDX files and ChatJack will rebuild them as necessary. Additionally, if the MEMBERS.DBF file ever becomes corrupted, copy the file MEMSHL.DBF to the MEMBERS.DBF file. This will create a new DBF structure and lose all existing player entries in the old MEMBERS.DBF file. All other DBF files are internal to ChatJack and will be taken care of by the CHATJACK.TPG program. ***** DEMO version vs REGISTERED version (differences) ****** ChatJack is fully functional in the DEMO version the only restriction is the display of the ASR.ANS ANSI file. The DEMO version will display the word DEMO in the middle of the table layout. All features of ChatJack remain fully functional without 'crippling' of any kind. REGISTERED UPGRADES ÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄ As with all ASR products, upgrades to registered users of ChatJack are free and may be acquired through the Advanced System BBS at: (702) 334-3317 19.2/8/N/1 Legal Crap (STUFF) ÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄ ChatJack is copyrighted by Richard Dias @1992/1993 and ALL RIGHTS ARE RESERVED you are licensed to use the DEMO (unregistered version) so long as no commercial gain is acquired from its use.
