CLEARweb Viewer is a graphical navigation tool for Netscape. Simply double-click on any Internet address in a CLEARweb map and have the matching web page automatically displayed. Or, drag an address from a map and drop it right into Netscape as a fun way of surfing the Internet. Map files can be opened from your computer's local drive or viewed directly over the Internet. Downloading the Latest Copy of CLEARweb Viewer ====================================================================== The current version of CLEARweb Viewer is available for downloading from the following web page: http://www.clearsoft.com/clearweb/downview.html A library of example CLEARweb maps can be found at: http://www.clearsoft.com/clearweb/library.html ====================================================================== 2. Installation Instructions ====================================================================== CLEARweb requires a PC compatible running Windows 3.x, Windows NT, or Windows 95. The installed version of the program needs about 1.4 megabytes of disk space including examples. CLEARweb Viewer works with Netscape version 1.1 or greater. - The CLEARweb Viewer file that you download from the Internet is a self-extracting file. It will be named CWEBVxx.EXE where xx denotes the version number. Run this file to extract the installation files. Then run INSTALL.EXE which will install CLEARweb Viewer in its own directory, and create icons for the program. - After CLEARweb Viewer is installed on your computer's hard disk, the Viewer Setup program will run. This program will find your copy of Netscape and install CLEARweb Viewer as a helper application. You can let Viewer Setup automatically detect and install Netscape, or you can manually select the copy of Netscape you want to use with CLEARweb Viewer. - You will need to run the Viewer Setup program each time you install a new version of Netscape. - Finally, you may have to restart Windows after installation to have CLEARweb Viewer run correctly. ====================================================================== 3. Getting Started with CLEARweb Viewer ====================================================================== You do not need to be connected to the Internet to run CLEARweb Viewer and display maps, but you do need an active Internet connection to view web pages with Netscape. Here are some tips on using the program: - CLEARweb Viewer automatically offers to open a file when it starts. Try selecting the PCTOP100.CWM file and click OK to view a map of PC Magazine's top 100 web sites. - You can also open a map in CLEARweb Viewer by dragging the CWM file from File Manager or Windows Explorer and dropping it onto CLEARweb Viewer. - To resize the map click the zoom in, zoom out, and fit in window buttons on the button bar, or select these options on the View menu. You can also resize the CLEARweb Viewer window and scroll its contents to see different sections of the map. - As you move the cursor over the boxes on the map, notice that the text in each box also appears on the status line. - CLEARweb Viewer can display a web page with Netscape in several ways: Double-click a box with an Internet address in CLEARweb Viewer. You can recognize a box containing an Internet address, because the cursor turns into a hand when passing over it. When a box is selected, you can view the matching page by clicking the Goto Location button on the button bar or the Goto Location item in the View menu. CLEARweb Viewer will automatically start Netscape if it isn't running when you try to goto a location. When Netscape is running, you can drag a box from a map and drop it right onto Netscape to display the matching page. - CLEARweb maps can be downloaded from the Internet and displayed directly in the Viewer. Selecting the Library of CLEARweb Maps in the Help menu will display a web page listing maps to download. - You can display an overview of a map by clicking the Navigator button on the button bar.
