Three scenarios for use with Steel Panthers, 1995 PC CD-ROM wargame by SSI Be sure to also get the latest update for the Steel Panthers Notes for the Dien Bien Phu scenarios: 1. The map is a highly accurate representation of the Dien Bien Phu battlefield. I used aerial photographs and battlefield sketches from the book "Hell in a Very Small Place", by Bernard Fall, as the basis for the SP map. 2. I had to use Soviet units as the basis for the Viet Minh organization. I originally intended to use Chinese troops, but had to revert to the Soviets when I discovered the Chinese were depicted in the same uniform color as the French. DO NOT BE ALARMED by the opening screen showing "Soviet Player". 3. I have edited the Viet Minh troops to accurately reflect the armaments they carried. 4. In the first and third scenarios, I have increased some Viet Minh squads to 20 men per squad. When these squads reach 15 men (as a result of casualties), they may change icons or appear to vanish. This bug corrects itself as soon as those squads suffer any more casualties. It will not diminish the scenario in any way. 5. The first and second scenarios occurred simultaneously in the actual battle. This was the action known as "the Battle of the Five Hills". Because of constraints in the editor, I have split this action into the first two scenarios. 6. Inspiration for these scenarios came from the outstanding book, "Hell in a Very Small Place", by Bernard Fall. I highly recommend it for anyone interested in military history. 8. Scen076.txt, scen077.txt, and scen078.txt provide the opening descriptions for their respective scenarios. If you renumber your scenarios, be sure to renumber the appropriate text files as well. 9. I hope you enjoy these scenarios! 10. Thanks to Cpt. Joe Giese, USA and Cpt. Rich Seiders, USA for playtesting these scenarios. 11. I welcome any comments or feedback you may have regarding these or any of my other scenarios: ("Eben Emael", "Singling").
