ZipView (VERSION 1.00) Copyright (c) 1995 Ziff Davis Publishing Company ----------------------------------------------------------------------- First Published in PC Magazine Dec 19, 1995 (Utilities) ----------------------------------------------------------------------- ZipView by Jeff Prosise PURPOSE ZipView is an extension to the Windows 95 shell that makes it easier to work with zip files. It adds a Contents page to the property sheet of zip files that displays their contents. You can select files for extraction by highlighting them and clicking the Extract button. USAGE To install ZipView, copy ZIPVIEW.DLL to a directory on your hard disk and run ZVSetup. This adds lines to your registry that tell Windows 95 how and when to use ZIPVIEW.DLL. ZVSetup will ask you for the path of ZIPVIEW.DLL. You can type the path name manually or use the Browse button to search for the file. Note that ZIPVIEW.DLL won't show up in the Browse window if "Hide files of these types" is checked in the View page of the Options dialog box that pops up when you select View|Options in an Explorer window. To use ZipView, right-click a zip file anywhere in the shell's namespace (for example, in Explorer or in a window representing a folder descended from "My Computer"), select Properties from the con- text menu, and click the Contents tab at the top of the window. You will see a list of the files stored in the zip file. To extract, highlight one or more file names and click the Extract button. ZipView uses PKUNZIP to do the actual extracting, and will ask you where this file is stored the first time you extract. Support for ZipView: Help for the free utilities offered by PC Magazine can be obtained electronically in the Utilities section of ZiffNet's TIPS forum (GO ZNT:TIPS). The authors of current utilities generally visit this forum every day. You may find an answer to your question simply by reading the messages previously posted in the forum. If the author is not available and you have a question that the sysops in the forum can't answer, the editor of the Utilities column, who also checks this forum each day, will contact the author for you. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Jeff Prosise is a contributing editor of PC Magazine.
