Export New to Text ------------------ Restrictions: Sysops and Co-Sysops Selecting this command displays a list of the 20 most recent ads that have been reviewed and posted, in reverse chronological order (newest to oldest). At the end of the list you are prompted with a question like the following: Export from 169 to Ad number (0 to Quit): Where the ad number given is the highest numbered ad in the system, and you are being asked to provide the lowest numbered ad which you would like to include in the report. The combined values form a range that will be exported to a specially formatted text file called ADS.TXT that is suitable for importing into a message base or posting as a downloadable file. The beginning and end of this file will contain the Export Header you have previously defined in the Configuration Setup. If no header is defined, none will be included in the report. Unlike the format used for the Type 20 database, each line in this file is exactly 79 characters in length, begins with a leading space character and is terminated by a hard carriage return. This file can be opened in any text editor or imported into the TBBS message base. Here are some suggestions for importing the file into TBBS: 1. Logon to the BBS from the local consol, select a message area to upload the file into, select "Upload Prepared message text", and select a transfer protocol. At this point TBBS will prompt you to enter the drive\path of a text file. Specify d:\path\ADS.TXT View the message on screen with the "V" option to ensure it is properly formatted. Save the message. 2. From a remote terminal you can do much the same thing except that you need to download the file first, and then re-upload it using a file transfer protocol. I use this command to routinely distribute a sample of our most recent classified ads in a local fidonet echo, which helps the advertiser reach a wider audience and helps to promote our BBS at the same time. You may also want to post it in a local message base on your own BBS to remind users of how useful it can be to read and post in ClassAds.
