NOVELL TECHNICAL INFORMATION DOCUMENT TITLE: GroupWise Ofcheck 4.1c3 Update README FOR: OFCK41.EXE NOVELL PRODUCTS and VERSIONS: GroupWise 4.1 for DOS GroupWise 4.1 Admin for DOS GroupWise 4.1 Admin for UNIX GroupWise 4.1a for Windows - Admin GroupWise 4.1 for Windows - Admin GroupWise 4.1 for DOS - Admin ABSTRACT: Ofcheck 4.1c3 is fully compatible with 4.0a and later versions of GroupWise databases and is recommended for use in place of previous versions of Ofcheck. This release includes enhanced checking routines for detecting and removing orphaned message attachments. This enhancement will initially reduce the overall size of the message store and will further assist system administrators in maintaining a clean and efficient GroupWise system. ----------------------------------------------------------------- DISCLAIMER THE ORIGIN OF THIS INFORMATION MAY BE INTERNAL OR EXTERNAL TO NOVELL. Those files are stored in the offiles directory structure. - Verification record validation - detects and reports security violations (D115 - renamed databases) - Detects and deletes extremely large (invalid) notify files in the ofnotify directory. - Detects and corrects folders linked to themselves instead of valid parent. - Resolves un-owned files by setting file ownership to Supervisor. - Turns off database roll-forward logging if accidentally turned on. - Shows FIDs and diskIDs for all users during summary stats. - Correctly reports recovered records following structural rebuilds. - Cleans up expired server log files. - Better timesharing for server execution and callbacks for server termination. - Fixes low-level database code to ignore encryption bytes in WP headers. - Fixes low-level database code to delete records in extreme cases. - Fixes low-level database code to recover additional records during rebuild in extreme cases. Because of changes in the user interface, the 4.1c3 version cannot be launched from the Admin program and should be installed to a different directory such as \WPTOOLS\OFCK41C. Additionally, the OFUSER.DC and OFMSG.DC files should be copied from \WPOFFICE to this same directory (to facilitate rebuilds of remote and archive databases). To use Ofcheck 4.1c3, change to the \WPTOOLS\OFCK41C directory and type OFCHECK MENU. Initially, you will need to verify the accuracy of the entry in the Path to Host field (post office directory path). The new Orphan Cleanup feature is designed to be run against a single post office and not against multiple post offices simultaneously. To use Orphan Cleanup, specify a valid path to the post office directory of the post office you wish to have examined (Path to Host field referenced earlier) and the name of that post office (Post Office field). With the User setting set to "all", the Orphan Cleanup option will be available under the Action to Perform menu. NOTE: If the "Post Office" setting is set to "all", the Orphan Cleanup option will be unavailable in the Action to Perform menu. It is unnecessary to use this option for routine maintenance, but may be used when disk storage space is a concern. ----------------------------------------------------------------- Any trademarks referenced in this document are the property of their respective owners.
