Q.
Can I change the items on the right mouse popup menu for objects in Warp?

A.
Yes. Open the settings notebook for the object you want to change by selecting Settings from the right mouse popup menu, then select the Menu tab.

The top listing under Available menus lists the menus that you have assigned to that object. Several menus appear by default, including the Primary pop-up menu and the ~Open menu. By selecting a menu in the top box, you can view the options that will "cascade" off that menu choice in the bottom Actions on menu listing. For example, if you select the ~Open menu in the top listing for a folder object, you will see choices in the bottom listing for the different views that you can choose to open. These options will appear next to the Open menu option in a small "cascade" menu once you click on it.

If you click on the Settings button, you can select between a Cascade Menu or a Conditional Cascade Conditional cascades allow you to choose a default action - for example, if you click on the Open option on a folder's popup menu, it will open an icon view by default. You can change that default option here by selecting a different view.

To add a new menu, select the Create another... button next to the top list of menus. Warp will ask you for the name of your new menu, and will place it in the top list of menus. You can then add menu items to the bottom window by selecting the Create another... button next to the bottom list of menu actions. You can then specify the file name and path to any programs you would like to add to the menu. This is a really great way to add often-used programs to the desktop's popup menu - just open the desktop's settings notebook and add programs in the same way. Note that Warp will allow you to create customized menus for every object in the system - an incredible amount of customization. Add several menus to the desktop, perhaps one labeled "Programs" and another labeled "Utilities", then add programs to each menu in the bottom listing.

You can also drag and drop programs to the bottom listing. Just open the folder with the program you would like to add to a menu, and use your mouse to drag and drop the icon for that program in the bottom listing. Warp will pick up all of the settings for that object and add a new menu choice with just one step.

One last note: you can shorten the number of menu items on all of your popup menus by adding the line
SET MENUSTYLE=SHORT
to your CONFIG.SYS file. This will reduce the options on the menu down to just Open, Settings, and Pickup. All of the other menu options can be performed using the mouse or the keyboard, so when you get handy with Warp, you can prune off the unused items. CONFIG.SYS is a special file that exists in the root directory of the boot-up drive on your Warp system. It contains all kinds of system settings, and is vital to OS/2. You can edit this file by using the OS/2 System Editor in the Productivity folder of your system. It is a good idea to make a backup copy of CONFIG.SYS before you edit it.

Q.
Is there a faster way to change the name of an icon without opening the settings notebook?

A.
Hold down the Alt key while clicking on the icon with the left mouse button. A text-entry box will pop up allowing you to change the name of the icon in place.
