It allows automatic recognition of the origin of file and its contents. The compression methode (PKZip, LHArc, or other) is not impacted by this method and should be selected by the BBS according to local rules. There are two different rules depending on the status of the package. It can be shareware (unregistered) and then follows the rule of 2 character name + 3 character version + 3 character OS + archive suffix CL=ClusterView 105=v1.05 WIN=Windows 3.1 ZIP=PKZip-compressed BI=BitList Engine ...
