DLMS 2.4 Copyright 1995, 1996, Michel Forget Electric Storm Software The documentation for this archive is located in DOCMAN.TXT, which should be located in the same directory as this document. This list of bug fixes and changes made to the document list management system is in chronological order; the new information appears at the end of the document. December 25, 1995: DocMan 1.8 BUG FIXES: 1. DocMan will no longer display an error message indicating that the DOCMAN.INI file could not be found. 2. DocMan will now update the document count display correctly. The previous version of DocMan would only update this field once. 3. DocMan will now format messages displayed on the screen properly (there will be no more 'tiny' message displays on 1024x768 screens). 4. DocMan should now be able to locate the help file every time now. NEW FEATURES: 1. DocMan can now optionally close the document window after a document is opened with the "Open" command. 2. DocMan now features a "status" bar which appears at the bottom of the document window. This is the area where informative messages that do not require your immediate attention will be displayed. 3. DocMan can now display the "type" of a document, instead of the name. There is also a separate column that indicates whether or not DocMan is protecting the document. Example: Name Protected? Type file.doc Yes Word Document file_id.diz No Archive Information File pentium.txt No Text File win.ini No Configuration Settings 4. The DocMan interface has been redesigned to make using DocMan faster and less complicated. The differences are outlined below: a) There are now fewer buttons in the quick access area, which means there is more space for the document list. b) The quick access area has been moved so that it appears above the document list, for easier reading. c) Those features which no longer appear in the quick access area have been moved to the menu (which is located directly above the quick access area). 5. The document list is now shown in three columns, consisting of the name of the document, the status of the document, and the type of the document. The width of the columns can be changed simply by clicking on the divider to the right of the column you want to adjust and moving the mouse left or right while holding down the left mouse button. You can select a document by clicking on the name of the document (not the status or the type) with the left mouse button. You can select more than one document by holding down the control key and clicking on each document you want to select. 6. You can now right-click a document to open a context menu, just as you would right-click a folder, file, icon, or drive in Explorer. 7. DocMan now has support for "tooltips". If you allow the mouse pointer to hover stationary over a button, or text field, a short description of the button or text field will be displayed. 8. There is now an "Unprotect Document" command to go with the "Protect Document" command. 9. You can now open a document (or more than one document if you wish) by double-clicking on the document in the document window. If you want to open more than one document, select each document while depressing the control key and then (after releasing the control key) the last document you selected. December 25, 1995: DocMan 1.8 BUG FIXES: 1. When you make a change to your preferences, the change will now be recorded properly. In the previous version of DocMan, the change would only be recorded if you selected "Exit" from the right-mouse-button context menu. 2. If your system registry does not contain information about a certain file type, or DocMan could not locate that information, it will not show "(null)" any longer. Instead, it will show "Unknown". NEW FEATURES: 1. There is now a "remove all unprotected" command, which will automatically remove all unprotected documents from the document window. ALERT: If you own a SyQuest EZ-135 Internal IDE Removable HArd Disk, please consult the PROBLEMS.TXT text file for information about a -potential- conflict with DocMan. February 21, 1996: DocMan 2.0 BUG FIXES: 1. The "Add Document" command in the context menu now performs the correct function. In the previous version of DocMan, this command would cause the document list to be refreshed. 2. DocMan will no longer crash if you move the document window. 3. DocMan will no longer crash if you select "About" from the context menu. 4. DocMan will no longer crash if you select "Options" from the context menu. NEW FEATURES: 1. DocMan has been compiled with a new compiler; it is now smaller, faster, and more efficient. 2. DocMan is now a true Windows 95 application, as opposed to a Win32 Windows NT application. 3. The installation module has been improved; it is now a 32-BIT Windows 95 application, and it now more robust. In the next version of DocMan, the installation module will be improved again (to make it more user friendly). February 22, 1996: DocMan 2.0 Bug Fixes: 1. DocMan once again contains a version information tab. 2. DocMan will no longer display a message if it cannot find a file that a shortcut points to. April 5, 1996: DLMS 2.4 This release contains no new features or bug fixes; the reason for the release is to change the name from DocMan (which is a registered trademark of another company) to DLMS. The next version of the document list management system will contain new features and bug fixes. Registered users of DocMan are registered users of DLMS; only the name has changed.
