***************************************************************************** ** Macintosh Desktop Theme 1.0 ** ** ** ** (c)1996 - ParSoft ** ** ** ** Illusion maker : Pablo Ayllón ** ***************************************************************************** If you have ever feel that Windows 95's look was close to Macintosh's perhaps this "theme" can help you to complete de illusion. If you usually work with Macs, this tool can make Windows 95's graphic environment nicer and more familiar to you. It is a set of icons, cursors, animated icons and sounds simulating the graphical look of the Macintosh computers. It´s not my invention, everything is directly taken from MacOS 7.5 operating system. The wallpaper and the icons have been directly captured form Mac's screens, later retouched with several Windows tools to make then suitable to this OS. Sounds have been converted using a Macintosh's sound editor right from mac's format to Windows' wave format. Only the cursors and animated icons have been manually made using patterns from Macs and Windows 95. All the icons and cursors were converted to Windows' 16 color basic palette to make them suitable for most screen combinations: in a 640x480 screen with 16 colors as in an 800x600 Hi-color screen they look perfect, if I can say it ;-) *** Files included *** Animated icons: MACBUSY.ANI MACWAIT.ANI MACBWAIT.ANI Cursors: MACARROW.CUR MACHELP.CUR MACWATCH.CUR Icons: FOLDER.ICO HDISK.ICO MACFD.ICO PCFD.ICO PROTFD.ICO TREMPTY.ICO TRFULL.ICO MACICONS.DLL Wallpapers: MACOS16.BMP MACOS256.BMP Sounds: DROPLET.WAV INDIGO.WAV QUACK.WAV RESTART.WAV SOSUMI.WAV WILDEEP.WAV *** Instalation *** I feel very lazy like doing a Windows theme automatic installation script, but I have plans O;-) So you'll have to do a manual installation following these steps: 1. Copy all the Animated Icons (.ani) and the cursors (.cur) to \windows\cursors directory. Open the Control Panel->Mouse->Pointers and select the cursors you wish. 2. Copy MACICONS.DLL library (it's a library which includes all the icons (.ico) for better convenience) to \windows\system directory and modify the shortcuts icons you like (for instance, shortcuts to floppy(s) or hard disk(s) you have on the desktop). To change the recycled bin icons you need to have MSPLUS! installed in your system; go to Control Panel-> Screen->Plus! to do it. Well, it can be manually done without MSPLUS! editing the Windows 95's registry. 3. Copy wallpapers (.bmp) to \windows directory and select them from Control Panel->Screen->Wallpaper and choose mosaic option. The two wallpapers provied are equal but in 16 and 256 colors. Probably you won't notice any difference between them. 4. Copy all the sounds to \windows\media directory. To active sounds go to Control Panel->Sounds and set sounds you want to the events you choose. Well, in fact you can copy the files wherever you want, for instance, to \Program files\Plus!\Themes directory. It's only an idea to distribute them in the previous indicated form. As you can see there are not fixed rules. Change whatever you want wherever you want and however you like. An advice: Set the Start Bar at the top of the screen and choose Autohide option. Put shortcuts to your floppys, hard disks and CD-ROM on the desktop, it´s easier and helps to complete the illusion. Last, add the Control Panel to the start menu as a drop down menu (this makes the start menu more like Mac's apple menu), do the following to get it: 1. Click Start button with the mouse's right button. 2. Choose Explore option from the menu. 3. Place the cursor wherever in the Explorer's right screen and press the mouse's right button. 4. Choose New->Folder option. 5. Assign this name to the folder, type it exactly: Control Panel.{21EC2020-3AEA-1069-A2DD-08002B30309D} You can do the same with printers, dial up net and the handcase: Printers.{2227A280-3AEA-1069-A2DE-08002B30309D} Dial Up Net.{992CFFA0-F557-101A-88EC-00DD010CCC48} Handcase.{85BBD920-42A0-1069-A2E4-08002B30309D} *** Conditions of use *** Simply, there aren't conditions of use :-) This utility is absolutely free, at least in what may concern to me. As you can understand nothing of what's included here belongs to me, i just has compiled it and gave others the chance to use some visual properties and sounds from the operating system of Apple's Macintosh. *** How to contact me *** If you wish to cantact me for any suggestion, coment o possible improvement you can do it by sending me a netmail to the following Fidonet adress, 2:344/16.22 (To: Pablo Ayllon) Also you can send me an e-mail to these following adresses although they are temporal as I'm waiting for a defintive one: or I will be very pleased if you write to me :-)
