ScanFX VXD Beta Release March 20, 1996 We know how patiently you have been waiting for the ScanFX Windows 95 device drivers and we deeply appreciate your endurance. The VXD (virtual driver) that you are going to install, or have installed, is the first step in completing the Windows 95 ScanFX plat form. We are confident that once the Windows 95 interface and drivers are complete you will be fully satisfied with its operation. About ScanFX's Operation ScanFX's Windows 3.xx device driver uses a DOS TSR (terminate and stay resident) program that is not supported by Windows 95. So, unfortunately, we had to "start" at the beginning of the software life cycle to develop ScanFX's 95 drivers. Please note that the TSR that ScanFX uses to operate its control panel was two years in the making. And, if you are wondering why we did not "start" developing the ScanFX Windows 95 drivers sooner, it's because we did not receive the necessary code from Microsoft until the end of January 1996. We are not trying to refocus our responsibilities by trying to blame Microsoft, but in this case they are responsible for our late start. About ScanFX's 95 Interface (prelude) The new ScanFX interface is going to use Microsoft's Exchange (INBOX) to send and receive faxes. You will be able to use ScanFX's control panel similarly as you did with Windows 3.xx with more reliability and friendliness for copying, faxing and performing one-touch OCR and imaging. We are currently involved in Alpha testing the ScanFX plat form and it should be available to you in Beta by mid April. Again we appreciate your patience and we are working extremely hard to get you the Windows 95 ScanFX plat form. If you have any further questions or comments, please give my secretary (Mary) a call at 800 685-8088 X 111 and let her know about anything concerning ScanFX. Your comments are welcomed and appreciated by all of us at Plustek. Cordially, David Chen Vice President US Sales and Marketing Beta Installation The ScanFX installation modifies the Windows SYSTEM.INI file under the heading [386enh]. Look for ScanFX=270 towards the bottom of the 386enh heading. If you are using a different I/O address other than 270h, then change the ScanFX=270 value to the proper address after the installation has completed. Hint: Before removing the ScanFX statement from the CONFIG.SYS file, check the DEVICE=C:\SCANFX\SCANFX.SYS /H3 /I11 statement for the proper I/O address setting. 1. The Windows 95 installation should be executed from START and RUN. 2. Type the command, directory and SETUP.EXE and click OK (e.g. C:\TEMP\SETUP.EXE. 3. If you need to change the I/O address, EDIT the Windows SYSTEM.INI file and change 270 to the proper I/O address.. 4. After the installation has concluded, RESTART your compute.
