VWW4-CHK v4.0 By : Jason McDonnell AKA : Love Slave BBS : Heels of Domination WHERE THE WEST IS WET This program is to fix VBBS's problem with not fully loading all the perameters of the WWIV CALLOUT.NET. WWIV uses information from the CALLOUT.NET file to determine a net window. This net window is very nice because you can set long distance connections to be called at night when prices are cheeper. But Local connections can work all day long for free. VBBS does not use this information, and does not allow the setting for callout windows. Instead VBBS author either forgot to put this feature in, or decided that running BATCH files at certain times was the best. Either way I decided to create this program to fix this over sight. This program is not a replacement for the VWW4.EXE program that Registered users of VBBS use. But the program is actually a Front Door for the VWW4.EXE program to check the time callout window. Currently the program is configured for WWIVnet, WWIVlink, ICEnet, ULTRAnet, LOCALnet #1, and LOCALnet #2. If you happen to be running a network other than the ones described, you may contact me and ask that I add the network to VWW4-CHK. Anyway this is a rather simple program to install and run. Ok, this is a simple step by step set up for VWW4-CHK. Just follow these steps and you should be off and running. Step #1 - Unzip the VWW4-CHK program into your VBBS directory. Step #2 - Rename the VWW4.EXE program to VWW4A.EXE. Step #3 - Grab your favorite Text Editor and edit the VWW4.DAT file Step #4 - Once editing the VWW4.DAT file you may need to change the file to make the program work. Line #1 of the text file contains the Path and the File name of the VBBS VWW4.EXE networking software. You should have renamed it VWW4A.EXE, so if your BBS is on drive 'C' you would have the first line as "C:\VBBS\VWW4A.EXE". Line #2 contains the path and file name of your WWIVnet CALLOUT.NET file. In my BBS there is a separate directory for the NET copy of WWIV. So the second line reads "C:\NET\DATA\CALLOUT.NET". The third line is for the WWIVlink's location of the CALLOUT.NET file. It is set to "C:\LINK\DATA\CALLOUT.NET", so if you need to look for the CALLOUT.NET file on Drive 'D' you would have to change the line to "D:\LINK\DATA\CALLOUT.NET". Lines #4 through #7 are for additional networks. Line #4 is for ICE, #5 is for ULTRA, and #6 and #7 are for the two LOCAL net options you have in vbbs v5.6. Step #5 - Save the VWW4.DAT file with the changed information (if necessary). Step #6 - Rename VWW4-CHK.EXE to VWW4.EXE. This is so the VWW4.EXE file is called when the BBS runs a network function. Step #7 - Test it out to see if it works. It should work fine for you, if not, you can write me at 1@7451(NET) or 1@27496(LINK) and I may be able to help. For those wondering, the VWW4-CHK program, works as a front door. Only when VWW4.EXE would have normally gotten a "D#####" Dial command, does it do anything more than copy the info and run the VWW4A.EXE program for you. When the "D#####" command comes across, the VWW4-CHK program will look to see if the NETWORKID is equal to 2 or 3. If it's 2 then it looks into the WWIVnet directory (specified on LINE #2 of the VWW4.DAT file) and checks to see if it's currently inside the time parameter. The flashing bar graph that you see, is basically there to let you see what is the available call window for each node. It's really only useful for problem solving, if you were to have a problem.
