ąGoodbye Command = G Log off this system. ADIOS, AMF, BYE, EXIT, GOODBYE, LOG, OFF, POOF and SPLAT also work. Manually "pulling the plug" doesn't bother Auntie in the least, but none of the pointers for your current session will be updated.ź ' ąLinefeeds Command = L Toggles extra linefeeds on/off. Use this command if one line overwrites another or if lines sent appear double spaced. ź ' ąMain menu Command = M Go to the Main Messages Area. Q)uit also works.ź ; ąUsers U allows you to view R)ecent callers or U)ser information. Syntax: U [; R] or U [; U]ź ; ąeXpert Level Command = X Toggle your eXpertise level from 1 through 4: 1 - Beginner. Menus and long prompts. 2 - Novice. Long prompts but no menus. 3 - Expert. Short prompts only. 4 - Terse. Lean 'n' mean. Syntax: X [;] [n] , where n = 1,2,3, or 4. Also see MENU.ź ; ' Help Help added 1-27-90. ' ąHELP ? or H to HELP without an argument will display all the available help topics. Typing "H topic" or "? topic" will display help for that specific topic only. This is much faster and more convenient than having to wade through some long text file in order to get to a topic beginning with "Z". You may separate the command from its argument by a space or a semicolon. Capitalization and leading/trailing spaces are ignored. Also see SYNTAX.ź ' ąSYNTAX In most of the help text you'll see here are what are called syntax diagrams. The vertical bar, |, separates two or more optional ways of entering a command: SD | FIND | Z means that either of these three commands will do the same thing. Take your pick. Most commands have optional arguments which are shown in brackets, []. These really are optional and need not be entered since Auntie will prompt you for the information needed: N | LN [; mM-DD-YY][; A] means you could list all new files with an N or a LN uploaded since mM-DD-YY, and see "A"ll categories. Also see COMMAND STACKING.ź ' ąCOMMAND STACKING Auntie supports true command stacking by utilizing semicolons (;) between commands. Examples: e ; Bill Smith ; Lunch Next Week ; pr Enter a message to Bill Smith on the Subject of "Lunch Next Week" and store it PRivate. C ; pw ; foobar ; foobar ; f ; ln ; ; a ; ns Go to the Configuration Area, change password to FOOBAR (entered twice for double check) then go to the Files Area, do a ListNew on the default date (; ;) in all categories, non-stop. Note that defaults may be entered as ONE or MORE spaces, but not with a double ";;". Commands that use a single numeric argument do not require a semicolon to separate the argument from the command. Thus: "open;2" or "open 2" or " o p 2 " are equivalent. Commands that require more than one numeric argument must have the arguments separated by semicolons: cc ; 3 ; 1 or k ; 2345 ; 4567 ; 5678 Entering "cc 3 1" would be parsed as "CC;31", and would be unrecognizable to Auntie since the CC (Change Colors) command requires two numeric arguments. Some commands require that their arguments be delimited by SPACES in order to avoid being confused as additional stacked commands. This is the case when specifying more than one category to be listed or more than one file to be down/uploaded. L ; ZA MI ut or d ; DIR au599a Auntie removes all spaces from commands and capitalizes them prior to parsing. The single exception to this is a MarkMessages (MM) command search target string. Then leading/trailing spaces are not stripped, but the string is still capitalized.ź ' ąDOors Open a DOOR to a special feature. DO to DOOR or OP to OPEN ; n.ź ; ąFiles Menu Command = F Go to the Files Area.ź ; ąFortune Cookie Command = FC Read Fortune Cookies. Just for the fun of it. FC [; nn]ź ; ąMENU ME to MENU sends the menu one time regardless of your eXpertise level. This global command works in all areas.ź ; ąPage SysOp Command = O Operator page. CHAT. BEEPs the SysOp during "office hours". YE to YELL also works.ź ' ąANSI Toggle ANSI Color Graphics on/off. Available only when on at 8/N/1.ź ' ąChange Color Command = CC Use CC ; foreground ; background. Allowable foreground colors are 0 to 15 and 0 to 7 for background. CC is allowed ONLY if you have ANSI mode set. Global command. Syntax: CC ; fg ; bg Also see CLS.ź ; ąChange Protocol Command = CP Syntax: CP[;P], where P = 1, A, B, C, G, H, J, K, X, Y or Z. PRO to PROTOCOL also functions.ź ' ąGRaphics Command = GR Toggle IBM 8-bit graphics on/off. Available only when on at 8/N/1.ź ' ąMArgin Set Command = MA Change your right MArgin value. This is the line length for messages you E)nter. May also be changed from within the editor. This value has no effect when editing an upload file description. Syntax: MA [;] [nnn] where nnn = 20 to 255.ź ' ąPrompt Character Command = PC Change your Prompt Character. Be careful using "control codes" in the 0-31 range since many terminal programs react in odd ways upon seeing them. Syntax: PC [;] [nnn] where nnn = 0 - 255.ź ' ąPage Length Command = PL Change your Page Length. A value of 0 (zero) puts you in non-stop mode. Syntax: PL [;] [nnn] where nnn = 0 - 255.ź ; ąPassWord Change Command = PW Change your PassWord. Don't forget it! This command is only available when at the Configuration Area prompt. Syntax: PW [; OldPW ; NewPW]ź ; ąRATE Shows you your current participation rating. The rating is based upon an equation which is similar to the following: time spent downloading rating = ------------------------------------------------- time spent uploading + # messages left + # logons The lower your rating, the better. RAT to RATING also work.ź ; ąSET Allows you to view your current default settings. This is a global command and is available at all three main prompts. SET to SETTINGS also work.ź ; ąSkip Messages Command = SM Toggles between being able to read or skip reading any messages you have E)ntered to the message base. Messages marked with the MM command may still be read. You will also see your messages if you RP or RT back to them. SK to SKIP also work.ź ; ąSection Names Command = SN List the available message Section Names. SB (SuBject) also works.ź ' ąTime of day Command = T Get the Time of day.ź ' ąBackSpace Command = BS The BS command allows you to toggle between being sent ^H's (backspace control code, ASCII 8) and "soft" backspaces, <^H><^H>. All communications programs will move the cursor one position to the left upon receipt of a ^H, but some of them do not erase the character at the new cursor position. In other words they don't treat ^H's as destructive. "Soft" backspacing sends 3 characters instead of 1, and is therefore 3 times slower. Use this command if lines such as "Press Enter to Continue ... " aren't completely erased when you hit enter. The status of this toggle is stored in your user record for future sessions. This is a global command and is available in all areas.ź ' ąCLS CLear Screen This GLOBAL command instructs Auntie to send a formfeed character (ASCII 12), which should cause your communications program to clear your screen.ź ; ąCLM ńCLńear between ńMńessages This command allows you to toggle the clearing of your screen between reading individual messages. It has no effect when scanning messages or running the LZHM ZIPM or QMD commands. CLM is a global command available at all three main prompts and may also be issued at the "More ([Y], n ..." prompt shown at the end of each message. Syntax: CLMź ' ' CLD added 5.12, 10-3-91. ' ąCLD ńCLńear between ńDńescriptions This command allows you to toggle the clearing of your screen between file descriptions when BROwse mode is on. It has no effect when BROwse mode is off or when running LZHN/ZIPN. CLD is a global command available at all three main prompts and may also be issued at the BROwse mode prompt shown at the end of each description. Syntax: CLD See also BRO.ź ' ąBROwse Mode Command = BRO Toggles the status of your BROWSE mode flag. The status of this flag is stored in your user record for future sessions. If you ask for an Auntie files listing, and BROWSE is ON, each file will be shown separately followed by a prompt which allows you to: - B)ack up. This allows you to return to the previously shown listing under most circumstances. It has no effect while listing files found with the test FIND command. - C)ontinue. This is the default action if you just hit enter. - D)ownload this file immediately. You will be returned to the listing upon completion and may continue with additional downloads, time permitting. - E)dit the list of marked files. This allows you to remove files. - M)ark this file for later BATCH downloading with Zmodem or Batch Ymodem protocols (only). Auntie will keep track of how many files you have marked and the cumulative estimated time for their download. You won't be allowed to mark a file if you don't have sufficient time remaining for that particular file. (Note: you MAY have time for other files, though). - NS: Continue the listing in Non-Stop mode. Use Ctrl+S to pause and Ctrl+K to abort. - V)iew the table of contents of a compressed (ZIP/LZH) file. After the compressed file's contents have been listed, a sub-menu offers you the choice to R)ead one or more individual file in the archive. - Q)uit. Use this command to start the BATCH download if you have marked files, or to exit the listing. - CLD: Toggles the clearing of your screen between descriptions. If BROWSE is OFF then your files listing will be shown in "page at a time" mode with "More [Y]/n/ns ..." page-break prompts. BRO ... BROWSE is a global command and is available at all three main prompts.ź ' ' Esc added 10-11-91. ' ąGOOF Hitting your ńEscńape key while at any prompt (except inside the message editor) will erase whatever you have typed and redisplay the current prompt. This is easier than pounding on your backspace key.ź ' ' TS & TIME added 5-16-92. ' ąTIME TimeStatus TIME or TS will display an extended report of your time allowence and time remaining. It is global to all three main prompts.ź '
