The United Kingdom's maritime radio service provide a broadcast service
of weather forecasts, traffic lists, gale warnings and navigational
warnings etc broadcast in accordance with a pre-published schedule.

Gale warnings are broadcast on receipt and at the next scheduled time
or, if the first broadcast is at a scheduled time, the warning is
repeated at the end of the next silence period.

[silence period is a period of three minutes on every hour and half hour
during which *all* coastal and ship based stations listen for distress
and low powered signals]

The UK's maritime radio service is divided into two regions, (Northern
Region and Southern Region).

The Northern Region consists of the following medium frequency stations
:-

GHD  Hebrides Radio  1866 KHz  GPK  Portpatrick Radio  1883 KHz

GKR  Wick Radio [also includes Norwick Radio]  1770 KHz and 1764 KHz

GND  Stonehaven Radio  2691 KHz  GCC Cullercoats Radio 2719 KHz


The Southern Region consists of the following mf stations :-

GLD Land's End Radio  2670 KHz  GNI Niton Radio  1641 KHz

GNF North Foreland Radio  1707 KHz  GKZ  Humber Radio  1869 KHz
