The Universal Text Interface (UTI) is a set of programs which allow mail reader and network mail software to be compatible with virtually any BBS software. It consists of programs which generate specifically formatted text files which are read by the reader and netmail software. The "Executive Host-UTI Driver" is a set of seven programs described below, written by Steve Wood, Sysop of the WOODSHED. This document describes these programs, their purpose, the proper implementation of the Executive Host-UTI Driver, and the files that will be accessed/used by these same program files. It should be noted that although the UTI standard was developed by Kip Compton. He ethically cannot, and will not, endorse any specific UTI driver. Users of this particular UTI should understand that it follows the specifications set forth for the UTI Standard, Revision 2, except that this version DOES NOT SUPPORT PRIVATE MESSAGES. The registered version does support private messages. The User of the Executive Host-UTI Driver programs recognizes that neither Steve Wood nor Kip Compton can be held responsible or liable for damages suffered as a result of the improper use, proper use, or inability to use this software. Several terms need to be clarified before proceeding to the definitions of the programs and files. A conference is a message base area, which is separate from other message base areas, and is usually intended to house messages concerning a certain topic. A message number is a number corresponding to a specific message. No two messages in the same conference should have the same number, and numbers should be allocated sequentially. The range of message numbers supported is from 1 to 999999. For ease of finding and calling, all UTI driver programs should be residing in the DOS defined PATH or located in the subdirectory for the Mail Door or the subdirectory containing the PCRelay software. I will provide support for this software thru the following BBS's: The WOODSHED (602) 841-7881. The ESP (618) 993-5091. Unzip the UTI files so that they will reside in either a DOS subdirectory defined by your Path statement, or in the same one as your reader/net mail program. 2. Put the following line into your autoexec.bat file SET XHOST = d:\path This drive and path is the location of your Executive Host BBS software. THIS LINE MUST NOT END IN A \. 3. (Mega.Bat) C: CD \XHost\Doors\MegaMail UTIDoor.exe MegaDoor MegaCFG.%1 UTIDoor.Txt C: CD \XHost\Node Exit A walk through of each command in the Batch file follows: 1. Execute the mail door program passing parameters as described in the door documentation 5. Make sure no drive changes have occured 6. Return to Executive Host directory 7. Exit back to the Executive Host BBS Reminder - A caller Should use Executive Host to Join a conference. This is the ONLY way to establish the caller as a valid member of the conference.
