This is accomplished by utilizing a worldwide Public Data Network (PDN). Global Access maintains over 1000 access ports throughout the United States. These access ports can be easily reached for the cost of a local call from most cities, once connected to the PDN you will then have the ability to DIAL OUT via one of our Outdial Ports which serve most major cities and bulletin board systems. Option #1 Via the Global Access support system you can sign-up online. You call your local access port with your computer. If you do not know the local number for the closest port nearest you, you may call 1(800) 377-DATA. Set up your communications package for the fastest baud rate you can support and No Parity, 8 Data Bits, and 1 Stop Bit (N-8-1). (N-8-1) is the preferred method for easier access to the remote Bulletin Board System. Log onto the local network port, after connecting perform the following steps. 旼 MUST BE A CAPITAL  For (N-8-1) Press the @ key then the D key followed by a return, you should then receive a TERMINAL = prompt. At the TERMINAL = Prompt type D1 followed by a return. You will then recieve a @ prompt. At the @ prompt, type C GLOBAL followed by a return. When prompt for a user ID and Password, Use: User Name: GUEST The Global Access (tm) Support System will prompt for User name, password. You will then be able to signup online using Visa, Mastercard, Discover, Or American Express. This is a free call and there are no connect charges, however you will be limited to 20 minutes online to gather information and sign up. Option #2 CALL VOICE - Call Global Access directly at 1(800) 377-DATA and you will be signed up right on the phone. Be sure to have your Credit Card when you call. International users must contact Global Access by voice to signup for the service. 旼컴컴컴컴컴컴컴컴컴컴컴컴컴컴컴컴컴컴컴� � SECTION D - HOW TO USE Global Access � 읕컴컴컴컴컴컴컴컴컴컴컴컴컴컴컴컴컴컴컴� First, a member must determine from the list of access points, as explained above, his/her local access port then armed with a UIC and password follow these login instructions. At the TERMINAL = Prompt type D1 followed by a return. You will then recieve a @ prompt. At the @ prompt, type C GLOBAL followed by a return. You will then be prompted for your UIC (User Identification Code) and password, enter these followed by a return. A UIC and password is not needed for GAINFO. The Global Menu host is very easy to use, from here you can speed dial any one of the listed systems, do an online check of your usage for the current month or manually dial a system of your choice. Systems are listed on menu pages and prefixed with a number, to call a listed system just enter the menu item number at the prompt. The system will indicate it is dialing by the following message. Dialing . . . . . . . . . 旼컴컴컴컴컴컴컴컴컴컴컴컴컴컴컴컴컴컴컴� � SECTION E - PROBLEMS & ERROR MESSAGES � 읕컴컴컴컴컴컴컴컴컴컴컴컴컴컴컴컴컴컴컴� Each dot represents a RING heard by the modem. If the modem is not answered within 60 seconds the system will give up and report that there was No Answer. Other Possible informational and error messages that might be reported are as follows: Unable to wake up the modem The initial "wakeup" codes sent to the modem did not receive a successful return. Please try the selection again. Unable to init the modem The initial initialization codes sent to the modem did not receive a successful return. Please try the selection again. Remote end disconnected This message indicated that the remote system (BBS) hung up on you. Busy The remote modem is busy. Please try your call later. No Carrier This usually indicates that the remote end answered the call but a successful carrier (connect) could not be established. This could be caused by a flaky modem or a voice answering the call, etc. No Answer The remote modem never answered the call or you dialed incorrectly. Time Out A timeout is caused by the outdial modem not seeing the result code of the call, The call you attempted was unsuccessful. Call refused The X.25 call was refused due to no modems being available at the outdial city. This is a temporary situation that occurs during peak loads. No Dial Tone This is an error message caused by the modem not having dial tone. Retry the call and if the problem persists please call customer service. Connect This is the normal connect message the next thing you should see is the system you called. If you need to switch from E-7-1 to N-8-1 then please do so now. 旼컴컴컴컴컴컴컴컴컴컴컴컴컴컴컴컴컴커 � SECTION F - HOW THE SYSTEM WORKS � 읕컴컴컴컴컴컴컴컴컴컴컴컴컴컴컴컴컴켸 Packet switching networks work just like any other ong distance service except that they are exempt from paying access fees from local telephone carriers, this is where the cost savings comes in. Packet Data gets its name from the way the data is handled. The modem which you dial into is connected to a PAD, or a Packet Assembler/Disassembler that is connected to the PDN (Packet Data Network). 旼컴컴컴컴컴컴컴컴컴컴컴컴컴컴컴컴커 � SECTION G - DOING FILE TRANSFERS � 읕컴컴컴컴컴컴컴컴컴컴컴컴컴컴컴컴켸 All Binary or compressed files require that you to do file transfers at 8 data bits, No Parity and 1 Stop Bit, so if you find you are having problems switch your communications software to N8&1 and this should solve the problem. File transfer protocols vary greatly on packet data networks, because the length of the packet, protocols that do short data packets and wait for a reply are terrible on packet networks, examples of these types of protocols are X and Y Modem. Protocols like YModem-G and Zmodem are excellent protocols for PDN's because of their free flowing way to transfer data.
