LANtastic Network Operating System Version 5 Compatibility Bulletin Product Reviewed: Futurus Team version 2.02 (DOS and Windows) Classification: E-Mail and Productivity Tools Date: 06/15/1993 (FT.DOC) Engineer: JHC ************************************ Compatibility Statement The Futurus Team E-Mail and productivity software version 2.02 (DOS and Windows) is compatible with LANtastic versions 4.xx and 5.xx with the exception of the modem pooling feature. Product Overview The Futurus Team software includes a full featured E-mail system, personal and group scheduling, data base driven phone message center, modem communications, multi-user real time Chat, and numerous personal productivity tools. Version 2.02 comes bundled with both a DOS and Windows user interface. Product Installation Notes Allocate a single dedicated DOS drive letter for the Futurus Team E-mail server and all user workstations. Install Futurus Team for DOS on the chosen server, then install the Windows interface on each workstation that requires Windows support. By way of example for this bulletin, Futurus will be installed on the server's physical drive C: over a redirected LANtastic network drive S: at a workstation. At the Futurus server type: SUBST S: C:\ Insert the Futurus Team DOS installation disk in the floppy drive and from the floppy prompt type: INSTALL Be sure to designate the target drive as (in this example) S: and respond to network type with (3) LANtastic. Complete the installation by following the remainder of the installation prompts. To create and maintain Futurus user accounts, groups and resources type: S:\FT\FT GLOBAL where S:\FT is the directory where Futurus Team was installed. At the Futurus server, add the following lines to the end of the AUTOEXEC.BAT file or other batch file used for bringing up the network. SUBST S: C:\ S:\FT\FT.COM At each Futurus workstation, add the following lines to the end of the AUTOEXEC.BAT file or other batch file used for bringing up the network. Net Login \\ Net Use S: \\ For those workstations that wish to use the Futurus Team Windows interface: Load the DOS FT.COM program as outlined above. Start Windows on the workstation. Place the Futurus Team for Windows installation diskette in the floppy drive. Invoke the Windows RUN command and enter in the command box: :SETUP.EXE Perform the installation by double clicking on the install option. A Windows group containing Futurus Team icons will be created for you. Note that the Futurus server may also act as a normal LANtastic workstation -- No dedicated server is required. For those who wish to be notified when E-mail is sent to them, the Futurus Notify program may be configured to beep, flash or pop up when new messages arrive. Product Execution Notes Activate the DOS based Futurus Team pop up program at any time by pressing the keys simultaneously. The program, which is menu and hot key driven, is intuitive and easy to use. Activate the Windows Futurus Team interface by double clicking on the desired functional icon. Note that at this time, not all functions available in the DOS version are supported by the Windows interface (e.g., modem communications). To support the Windows interface, the DOS version of Futurus Team (FT.COM) must be loaded before Windows. Compatibility Notes Voice files created by the Artisoft sounding board and Windows ArtiSound recorder applications can be attached to an E-mail message. Currently, however, the voice recorded message may only be directly played back using the Futurus Team DOS version (MULAW format). The modem pooling feature of Futurus does not function correctly with Artisoft ArtiCom due to an incompatible implementation of DOS INT 14 extensions.
