Compatibility Statement
The Norton Utilities v6.01 are compatible with LANtastic NOS v4.xx excepting:
CALIBRAT, the park feature of DISKMON, DISKREET, NDD, SPEEDISK, 
UNFOMAT, UNERASE, the DISK WIPE feature of WIPEINFO, DISKTOOL, 
IMAGE, and the write caching features of NCACHE.

Product Overview
The Norton Utilities are a set of programs that provide a large number of disk, 
file and hardware testing utilities for the PC computer family.  It can recover 
deleted and formatted disks, optimize hard drives and test them for bad 
clusters, provide comprehensive system overviews, and allow a user to explore 
all areas of virtually any type of disk. 

Test Equipment Configuration
following machines were used for DR DOS 6.0 testing.  All machines use Artisoft 
AE-2 NICs.  Testing was completed using LANtastic NOS v4.0 with AILANBIO.EXE 
and AE2.EXE v2.03.  Machines running as LANtastic peer-to-peer servers are 
designated by (S).

	-       CompuAdd 333:   386DX/33, MS-DOS 5.0 (S)
	-       Clone 286:      286/12, MS-DOS 3.3
 

Product Installation Notes
Installation of the Norton Utilities is done by running the INSTALL.EXE program 
provided by Symantec.  During installation, the user can select whether to 
install all of the utilities or a subset of them. 

Compatibility Notes
The following features of Norton Utilities v6.01 are incompatible with 
LANtastic:

	Feature                 Reason for incompatibility

	CALIBRAT                Not designed for use on LAN drives or on 
				server's hard drive while LAN is installed.

	DISKMON PARK feature.   Has no effect on LAN drives.

	Norton Disk Dr. (NDD)   Not designed for LAN drives, must not be 
				executed when LANtastic is running.

	SPEEDISK                Not designed to optimize LAN drives.
	
	UNFORMAT                Works only on physical drives and without 
				LANtastic installed.

	UNERASE                 Cannot UnErase files on a LAN drive, will not 
				work correctly when LANtastic's SERVER is 
				running.

	DISKTOOL                Not designed for use on LAN drives, cannot be 
				executed when LANtastic is running.

	IMAGE                   Not designed for LAN drives.  May be run on 
				boot-up before the NOS is installed (e.g. in 
				AUTOEXEC.BAT).

	NCACHE                  Write caching features must be disabled on 
				LANtastic servers.  Done by setting /DELAY=0.0 
				and /WRITE=0 on NCACHE command line.

	SYSINFO                 Hard disk benchmark feature only.  Cannot 
				benchmark a server's local hard drives, but all 
				other features work normally.

	WIPEINFO                Disk Wipe feature not designed for LAN drives 
				and cannot wipe a server's local drives.

	Directory Sort (DS)     Can read LAN drives but cannot write changes 
				to them.  Cannot read/write a server's local 
				hard drives.

	FILEFIX                 UnZap option only.  Not designed for use on 
				LAN drives.
 
Many of these incompatibilities are due to the fact that the utility requires 
direct access to the disk's FAT (file allocation table) or system area.  For 
data security reasons, the LANtastic SERVER disables certain types of disk 
access, including those to the FAT and system area, while it is installed.  
These utilities can be used once the LAN is shut down and removed from the PC's
memory.
