TECHNICAL BULLETIN 03/15/1993 UniLink.WP ACCOUNTING SOFTWARE UniLink (Write UP*Plus) ÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄ Compatibility Statement: UniLink Write Up*Plus v6.1 accounting package has been tested as compatible with LANtastic versions 4.xx and 5.xx. This bulletin has been designed to help with the installation and setup of this product. Product Overview: The Unilink family of Accounting modules have been designed for both the accounting professional and the single business user. Modules interact and include time and billing, general ledger, after-the-fact and active payroll, accounts payable and receivable, interest calculations and bank account check writing and reconciliation. Installing UniLink Write Up*Plus: The machine on which Write Up*Plus will be installed must be configured as a LANtastic network server, and will be referred to as the UniLink server. The UniLink server and all workstations must use the same network drive letter to access the UniLink software and accounting information. By way of example, for this bulletin, the UniLink system will be installed on physical drive C: over a redirected LANtastic network drive U:. At the UniLink server: Net Login \\ Net Use U: \\\C-DRIVE Insert UniLink software disk #1 in the floppy drive and from the floppy prompt type INSTALL n Be sure to designate the target drive as U: and respond "Yes" to the Network Drive prompt. Follow the remaining prompts as explained in the UniLink Installation Guide. The installation procedure will not ask for network type. Configuration: After successful installation, perform the following steps at the UniLink server: Cd \UL60 Attrib +R *.* Attrib -R *.DAT Attrib -R *.PRD Start the UniLink accounting software and define the system users and optional module privileges following the steps outlined in the UniLink System Administrator's Guide. It is recommended that DOS Share be loaded on the UniLink server. Access to UniLink from a LANtastic workstation: To use the Unilink system from a LANtastic workstation, perform the following steps: Net Login \\ Net Use U: \\\C-DRIVE\UL60 U: UL Security: Security may become an issue when sharing data among multiple users on a network. Following the UniLink System Administrator's Guide, four levels of security can be implemented, from relaxed to extremely restrictive. Multi-User Limitations: System Administrator - It is recommended that only one System Administrator change the system configuration or security at a time. It is possible that if concurrent modifications are being made, some changes may be lost. UniLink Client - Only one user may be entering data in a UniLink accounting client at a time. Additional users attempting to access a currently selected client will be locked out with the error message "PR file cannot be opened, Press any key". Report Printing: Before starting the UniLink package, issue the NET USE command through the operating system to establish a printer connection and inform UniLink (through the System Configuration Menu) which redirected port to send output to.
