DIP 2.0 The development of (Diskette Information Program) came from the fact that I could not find a disk tracking program that gave me the total information about my diskette boxes that allowed me to distinguise from newer copies of backed-up files from older ones; to tell me which diskettes in a particular box had enough space on them to put certain files on; a program that had a search feature which would print me out a hard copy of my search listings or available space listings; a program that would print single sided or double sided hard copies of my box listings in three different font sizes. The only draw back to this particular program is that it depends on the Windows 3.1 enviornment, with it's True-Type technology, to print with. I'm not claiming that this program isn't simular to other diskette information programs that you may have seen but it has features in it that I personally have not seen in other programs. For instance, when updating a listing, you don't have to be concerned about the order that you read your diskettes or which drive your particular listing was originally read from. The update program automatically looks in the listing you are updating for duplicate volume labels and allows you to change the volume label if one by that name already exists. The update program also will not allow you to process a diskette unless it has a volume label and if it doesn't the program will prompt you to enter one if you wish or skip it if you do not wish to process it. There are several uses for listings that I have found useful that I did not originally conceive of when I wrote this program. For instance, I now make listings of my different install diskettes such as: Windows disks, Stealth 24 disks, game disks, and others so I can find certain files that I am not sure of which diskette they are on. It's also very handy to seach for duplicate files on all your diskettes in all your boxes and be able to compare date and time for the most recent copy or the earliest copy of that file name. The program was written in Visual Basic 1.0 so you will need the VBRUN100.DLL file pathed out to run it. I'm not a cracker jack programmer but I have severelly beta tested this program on a machine with only 4 Meg of ram and it has performed well in my opinion. I have a laser printer and I developed the print routines for it but I believe it will work just fine on a 24 pin dot matrix printer, although I haven't got to test it on any other printer except a KX-P1124. The minimum requirements for this program are : Windows 3.1, 4 Meg of ram, and the VBRUN100.DLL file. This program is freeware but I will except a donation of $10, money order of cashiers check, to : Jim Richardson 122 East Mojave Trail Nocona, Tx 76255 Also any comments or suggestions can directed to: Ken Richardson cserve 76220,3354 If you like this program or have comments about more features please let me know and I will be glad to consider them or just here from you. Thank you for trying DIP 2.0......Jim (VP).
