Using TV Agent for the first time Welcome to TV Agent ! This is a DEMONSTRATION of TV Agent, Version 1.01 D . It works just like the other 1.01 versions of TV Agent, EXCEPT it will only work with demonstration listings supplied during "free preview" periods. Now you will be able to find the TV programs you are interested in more quickly, without having to hunt for them among many channels you don't receive and listings that are a waste of time to read. You will set up a user name in your first session with TV Agent. Click on the "User" button (or type ALT-U) to do this. After the first session you can skip the opening menus and go straight to the listings if you include an existing user name in the command line, like: C:\TV> TVAGENT JOE If you're not on Eastern time you'll set your time zone in your first session by clicking on the "Set Up" button. Don't waste your time looking at ALL the listings; make TV Agent do the work for you by deleting TITLES of programs you are never interested in. You can eliminate many listings at once by deleting uninteresting programs by TYPE (like "GAME SHOW"). Each user can also eliminate listings by CHANNEL; or you can eliminate channels for all users at once by using the "Set Up" button on the Main Menu. When you follow the instructions you see by pressing the "Help" button on the Main Menu, you'll be shown more buttons that offer more help. One of them is the "Overview" button -- use that to get the Big Picture of how to use TV Agent effectively. There's also a button that will print out all the help files. The details about hiliting and deleting are available on screen when you hit "H" while the listings are displayed. ---------------------- Some listings are included in this TVADEMO.ZIP file along with the TV Agent program and help files so that you can test TV Agent after downloading only this one file. But to keep the file under 700K, only 22 channels are included in the listings. Actually TV Agent subscribers currently receive listings for 133 channels. TV Agent may seem like overkill if you only have 22 channels, so as you use this demo remember that it would be MUCH harder to read 133 channels without a customizable reader like TV Agent. If you would like to see a bigger sample of the channels, you can download other demonstration listings files prepared for January 1995. Further instructions for doing that are in the READ.ME file. When you subscribe to TV Agent you get the listings by calling a BBS that posts the TVLIST*.ARC files. The file WHERE.LST lists some of the BBS that make the TV listings available for download. Any Planet Connect site and some Skylink sites can post the listings. They get the listings daily in their satellite datastreams. There are additional details in WHERE.LST about which files you would download if you were a subscriber to TV Agent. Subscribe to TV Agent for $24.95 per year from: Planet Systems Inc. 1065 Cosby Hwy Newport TN 37821 (615) 623-8300 VISA/MasterCard accepted. TV Agent comes on a diskette as an Everlock protected program. ---------------------- Here is a chart showing the relation of the 2-character satellite ID used in the listings and the location of the satellite.
