hi, just wanted to put this on record:

TROUBLE SHOOTING YOUR SETUP OF ULTIMATE UNIVERSE:

symptom:   Works locally but not over the modem.

cause:     could be several things but check these:

           1. Your fossil driver is not installed or running properly
              Cure:  check your fossil docs.
           2. check the UU config with CONFIG.EXE and make sure
              your hardware settings are correctly pointing to
              FOSSIL support.

symptom:   Works locally but modem users complain that they have
           no time in the game and it returns to the bbs without
           entering the game.

cause:     again, could be a couple things but check these:

           1. More than likely its because UU can not find or deal
              with the "drop" file you are using.
              Cure: make sure the CONFIG.EXE Door/bbs information
                    currectly points to the type of door you are using
                    check your: Input file type
                    check your: Input file path
               make sure the path in the input file path correctly
               points to your drop file.  there are two different
               DOOR.SYS files, if your bbs makes a DOOR.SYS file and it
               doesnt work try using the other one instead..
            2. if you are using a doorinfX.def system you need to make
               sure you enter the NODE number on the command line that
               calls UU.  example:  ULTIMATE 1  (for node 1 using
                                                 doorinf1.def)
                                    ULTIMATE 2  (for node 2 using
                                                 doorinf2.def)

             3. another possible cause is low memory to run the game.
                The current version of UU uses a bunch of memory and
                if you are running your system as a swap out deal
                you may run out of memory to run the door.
                Cure1: read your bbs docs about how to run a door
                       externally from the bbs and not while the
                       bbs is in memory.
                Cure2: Get the file:  UUOVERLAY.* from garth or me
                       and use that to test with, it is an overlay
                       beta test that will reduce your memory needs by
                       100k for UU.

         If you still have a problem after this try using a door
         converter program like: QKDOOR.EXE and then move the created
         drop file to the UU directory just before running the game:

    SAMPLE BAT EXTRACTION:

    @ECHO OFF
    QKDOOR.EXE D:\SLBBS\DOORS\PCB14 D:\SLBBS\DOORS\UU\WILDCAT 19200
    CD\SLBBS\DOORS\UU
    ULTIMATE.EXE

    remember again to check your paths etc in the config program.
    also check these two spots in there:  the locked baud info and
    rts/cts settings... try them at -1 unless you have problems with
    that.

  If you have any problems setting up with a Pcboard system read the
  file: PCB.SET in the UU161.ARJ version that will help you setup on a
  pcboard properly.

  The bulk majority of setup problems i recieve have been handled
  through the above information. Particularly relating to the DOOR.SYS
  paths and types.  if you get the out of time info then please check
  your config paths to your DOOR.SYS or try the other version of
  DOOR.SYS available in the config program... also if it still dont
  work try using: QKDOOR.EXE to convert the DOOR.SYS your bbs makes
  to the GAP or WILDCAT version that qkdoor makes its redundant but
  sometimes it helps where all else fails. If you have any questions
