IRTS News for 17th July 1994 GALWAY RALLY ------------ The Galway Rally, held last Sunday in Newtownsmith, was very well attended, and many familiar faces from all reaches of the country were noted. There were many stands trading anything from brand new gear, computers and ex-commercial equipment to pure unadulterated junk. As the day continued and trade slowed, a full scale auction was run to finish the proceedings. An AREN meeting was held during the afternoon, where Paul Martin outlined the activities to date, and the ongoing discussions with the Department of Communications and the emergency services. Reports were given by groups from Galway, Limerick and Clonmel, with representatives from other parts of the country also present. Following this meeting, a meeting of the IRTS committee also took place. SOUTH EASTERN AR GROUP ---------------------- Following several meetings withe the chairman of the RNLI it was decided to set up a special event station on 6 August to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the lifeboat service in Dunmore East, Co. Waterford. The callsign EI2DEL will be used, and the station may be run for a second day on 7 August, subject to confirmation. The RNLI provides an important service and depends on the generosity of the public. Each year it holds an open day to show the public what the service is all about and to raise money. It is hoped that the service will have some sponsorship from local businesses on this occasion. Activity will be on 20m and 40m and possibly on other bands, depending on conditions. The station will consist of a Kenwood TS 140 with a full size G5RV. Further information may be had on packet by contacting Frankie EI4HW at EI2HH BBS in Waterford.
