WICEN News With luck, the Sydney WICEN repeater on channels 7150/8275 will be back on air within a week or so; a number of hiccups occurred which kept it off the air, so hopefully the Sydney net will soon be re-vitalised. Speaking of the Sydney WICEN net, it has been suggested that the time of 9.30pm is rather late; the reasons for this particular time are long and complex, but lately it had to do with a certain drama show on ABC-TV. Perhaps members may like to give some thought to changing the date and/or time of the Syd- ney net, bearing in mind that it is rumoured that this popular show will soon re-appear. There are a couple of new events on the WICEN calendar. The an- nual Batemans Bay Car Rally is on Saturday 13th August, and as before Steve VK2XNH is looking for volunteers. Also next month is the Windsor-Sackville Regatta on Saturday 27th August, from 0730 to 1330. There will be three checkpoints -- one dry and two wet -- at Windsor, "station 48", and Sackville Ferry. Contact details are scanty at the moment, but interested personnel may contact Barry McGrath, the RVCP co-ordinator, on telephone (02) 747-6734 (w) and (02) 666-6596 (h). The regular exercise next month is the City to Surf Fun Run, on Sunday 14th August, and Eric VK2KUR is looking for volunteers for this fun event. There will be the usual barbecue afterwards, at the usual place, and further details will be heard later on. Please note that it is hoped to conduct this event on UHF, to avoid pager garbage; Novices need not worry. WICEN is always looking for members to provide the community with communications assistance. Write to WICEN (NSW) Inc, PO Box 123, St Leonards 2065 for further information, or come up on one of the WICEN nets: Blue Mountains on the first Monday of each month at 8.30pm on channel 7175 simplex, Hunter each Wednesday at 7.30pm on channel 6900, Northern Rivers each Wednesday at 8pm around 3610 kHz, Central Coast each Thursday at 8.30pm on channel 7125, and Sydney each Thursday at 9.30pm on channel 7150. If there are any other regular nets then we'd like to hear about them. WICEN (NSW) Inc. operates a telephone BBS, and it is accessible at speeds from 300 to 14,400 bps on (02) 888-2763. Brett VK2XMU is the "Sysop", and all listeners are invited to use it. -- Dave VK2KFU, WICEN (NSW) Inc. Publicity Officer
