VK2 WICEN News As listeners may have noticed, the Sydney WICEN repeater on chan- nels 7150/8275 is now back on air following an extended holiday. Along with various repairs, it is now running on a high-gain an- tenna for which we would like to thank Dick Smith Electronics. There are no new events on the WICEN calendar in the immediate future, so in the meantime here are the events this month. The annual Batemans Bay Car Rally is on Saturday 13th August, and as before Steve VK2XNH is looking for volunteers. This is followed by the annual City to Surf Fun Run, on Sunday 14th August, and Eric VK2KUR is looking for volunteers for this fun event. There will be the usual barbecue afterwards, at the usual place, and listeners are advised that communications will be conducted on UHF to avoid pager interference. Eric advises that those without access to 70cm need not worry. Hunter WICEN meet on Monday 15th August, and Sydney South will have their AGM on Tuesday 16th Au- gust. Those members who are also involved with other emergency services may be interested in the "Rescue Expo" at Darling Har- bour on Sunday 21st August. This is followed by the Windsor- Sackville Regatta on Saturday 27th August, from 0730 to 1330. There will be three checkpoints -- one dry and two wet -- at Windsor, "station 48", and Sackville Ferry. Contact details are scanty at the moment, but interested personnel may contact John Buxton VK2GJB. WICEN is always looking for members to provide the community with communications assistance. Write to WICEN (NSW) Inc, PO Box 123, St Leonards 2065 for further information, or come up on one of the WICEN nets: Blue Mountains on the first Monday of each month at 8.30pm on channel 7175 simplex, Hunter each Wednesday at 7.30pm on channel 6900, Northern Rivers each Wednesday at 8pm around 3610 kHz, Central Coast each Thursday at 8.30pm on channel 7125, and Sydney each Thursday at 9.30pm on channel 7150. If there are any other regular nets then we'd like to hear about them. -- Dave Horsfall VK2KFU, WICEN (NSW) Inc Publicity Officer
