Welcome to BSI Guest --- A Copyrighted Product of BSI Technologies --- About this Document ------------------- This document contains information on the installation and configuration of BSI Guest Version 3.1 for both new installations and updates. You may wish to print this document for ease of use. BSI Guest V3.1 Product Overview ------------------------------- BSI Guest is a program for The Major BBS V6.2x which will allow users to log on to your system via a "guest" account without the use of cumbersome passwords. And, with the newest implementation of BSI Guest the Sysop can configure and control up to five different types of guests. The Sysop can control on an individual basis the class of each Guest account, the times that that account may access the system, the channels they may log on to, the special greeting for each guest, and the number of each guest type allowed on at once, as well as the total number of simultaneous guests. The Sysop has complete control over the guests' access levels via the standard classes and "locks & keys" system of The Major BBS. Installing and Configuring BSI Guest v3.1 ----------------------------------------- This section covers both new installations and update installations of BSI Guest. It is important that you read this entire section before bringing up your BBS upon completion of the installation of the software. *** Improper Installation can lead to malfunctions *** Before you begin installing the software, you will need to consider what class(es) your guest accounts will be using. The guests can all be in one class, or have varying classes. Once you have decided on these class names you will need to bring up your system and log on as an account which has sysop access. From the remote sysop menu use the account selection to add an modify classes as needed. Now, you may proceed with the installation and configuration of the software. 1. Type "Install" in the directory containing the BSI guest files, and input your source and destination installation directories. If you already have BSI Guest installed, this installation will update your old files for you, however since BSI Guest 3.1 is such a comprehensive upgrade you will need to reset your CNF options. This will be covered later. 2. This step is for those who are upgrading to Guest 3.1 only, others may go on to step 3. When you first installed your older version of BSI Guest you were instructed to remove the text from CNF Level 6 text block ENTPSW. Since BSI Guest no longer requires the removal of this text block, you must update this text block to say "Enter your password: " 3. If you wish to take advantage of BSI Guest's online signup you will simply need to assign BSI Guest to a module page on your system. You can do this in the CNF level 2 Menu Tree editor. Feel free to key this option appropriately to the guests' access level. You should use one of the keys that you gave to your Guest class before you began the installation process. If for some reason you have not yet made the desired classes, you may exit to the BBS at this point and create them safely. However, you must be sure to null (blank out) options UID0 and CLS0 (described in step 5). 4. The next step is to enter your BSI Guest Activation code. This is done in the CNF Level 4 Option ACTCODE under BSIGUEST.MSG. Be sure to enter your activation code exactly as it was given to you. 5. Now you will actually begin to customize BSI Guest V3.1 for your system. Following is a list of the options which you will encounter when configuring BSI Guest. Name of Option Function TOTNUMON Set the total number of guests that will be allowed to log on. The individual Guest ID's will also have limits. DISCON If a guest cannot log on for any reason, hang up on them or let them enter another option. YES (Hang-Up) NO (Another Option) TOTGSTS <> UIDx This is the name of the current Guest ID and is what people will actually type to access your system as a guest. CLSx Enter the class of this Guest ID, be sure to have already made this class on your system. STTLNx The starting channel number in hex that this Guest ID may access. ENDLNx The ending channel number in hex that this Guest ID may access. MAXLNx The maximum number of these Guest ID's which are allowed on the system at once. Be aware that if this number is greater than option TOTNUMON, TOTNUMON retains priority. STTIMx The starting time, in 24 Hour format, that this Guest ID may access the system. ENDTMx The ending time, in 24 Hour format, that this Guest ID may access the system. GREETx This is the special greeting message these Guests will recieve upon logon. LOGONx This is a special message that appears before the logon prompt to inform the users that Guest ID's are available. You will probably not want to edit this too much, beyond color, etc. Option MULTIGT may replace this option if you have multiple Guest ID's defined for use on a particular channel during a possible time. < The following options refer to guests in general again > MULTIGT This option is comparable to LOGONx and is displayed in its place if you have multiple Guest ID's defined for use on a channel during a possible time, etc. BLOWOFF1 Text explaining that Guests can't log on this line. BLOWOFF2 Text explaining Guests not allowed on at current time. BLOWOFF3 Text explaining that the limit of the number of a particular Guest-ID on line at one moment has been reached. BLOWOFF4 Text explaining that the limit of total Guest-ID's on at the moment has been reached. 4. Start your BBS as you normally would. BSI Guest should now be installed and ready to accept Guest logons. Uninstalling BSI Guest V3.1 --------------------------- If you ever have the need to uninstall BSI Guest or Re-Install simply follow these steps. Deleting and Uninstalling/Reinstalling: 1. Bring your BBS down to the DOS prompt and enter your main BBS directory. Simply type Delete BSIGUEST.* 2. Delete the BSI Guest user accounts from your system. For every Guest ID you have configured BSI Guest creates a set of User-ID's on your system. For example, if one of your Guest ID's was "Guest" you would have "Guest" in your account files as well as a handful of accounts named "Guest-0", "Guest-1", etc. To complete the uninstallation simply tag these ID's for kill and run a full cleanup. 3. If you wish to reinstall guest simply start at the beginning of this document and follow its instructions. Disabling BSI Guest: 1. Type BBS from the DOS Prompt to get your BBS menu, or bring your BBS down to that menu. Select options (7) Basic Utilities. From this menu select BBSDMOD. Follow the prompts and disable BSI Guest. To re-enable BSI Guest simply reselect this option and follow the prompts. Support: -------- BSI Technologies can be reached for support at the following phone numbers, address, and mail addresses.
