C < Default Screen Color Change the default screen foreground color ___________________ Description of the Commands _____________________________ Join a Conference Using a displayed list of available conferences the remote caller will select the one to try to 'Join' to. Read Messages This option will allow the normal caller or sysop to read the message base using a more complex search criteria. During the actual display of the messages, the Prompt commands are similar to RBBS, except that there are a few differences and additions. Commands commonly available: Stop reading Messages ENTER It will default to Bracketed option. ### You can type the Message number to goto directly to + or - Change the Direction of the message display * Redefine Search Keys C (Sysop Level) Copy Current message into Editor to 'copy' D Goto to the 'Reply From' Message K Kill current Message (Sysop Level if Echomail conference) M Read next message that to/from you in current direction N Stop reading Messages R Reread the current message RE Reply to the Message Q Quit reading messages and return to Main Menu U Goto to the 'Reply To' Message X Xtract the Message into an Extract file Y Continue reading Messages Some options may stacked. for example 123- will start reading backwords from Message #123 X+ will extract current message and change the message number direction to increment (positive). U*+ will start reading messages forwards will go 'U'p to the message # specified in 'Reply Next' will null any current search keys used in searching Private Messages will be displayed, if it is From or To you. The searches are more complex. Whatever is in a search criteria the message must have that in it, or else it won't be displayed. For example, if you specify, SYS for the From: criteria then only messages that are from those containing the letters SYS like SYSOP or PARALYSYS will be displayed. To null out a specified search request you would type * at the prompt to be deleted. (You would only need to * it, if the bracketed default is not already null). [For search purposes, Upper and Lower Case letters are the same.] Example 1: You want to read all messages that are from John Smith to you (John Doe). You could Specify: Search on From: JOHN SMITH Search on To : JOHN DOE then this program will only display messages that are from John Smith to John Doe. Example 2: You want to read all messages that have the subject of SWAP MEET then you may specify: Search on Topic: SWAP then smlnet will only display messages that have the word SWAP anywhere in the Topic heading. Example 3: You remember a message from John Blake, and that he talked about a Compaq 386 but don't remember the rest of it. So, you would specify: Search on From: JOHN Blake You may specify 386 or COMPAQ for the 'text' criteria. What the Text criteria is, that if a text is specified, then the message must have that fragment somewhere within the body of the message, for it to be displayed. Note. Just remember to deactivate the search keys after you are done with them. Enter a Message This command will allow you to create a new message into the current Conference. You can create a message by using the Message Editor or you may insert message text from a text file. You have up to 300 messages lines to store the message in. (Only conference sysops are allowed to import textfiles into the current conference/message base.) Options within Message Editing are: ! (Sysop level) Crash Mail, File Attach/Requests A Abort entry of current message C Continue entry after last line D Delete specified lines E Edit specified line F (Sysop level) Append a Textfile to end of current message H Quicky Help Text I Insert and enter a message at specified number J Change the Topic(Subject) line K Netmail only. Toggle between KillSent and standard flag L List all lines in message P Active in Netmail conference Only! Toggle between Public/Private message mode Is this message to be saved as a Private or Public message. When replying to a Private message your created message will default to Private unless you 'toggle it' to a Public message before you save it. R Replace specified line (allows you you retype the line.) T Change destination of message S Save the message Conference sysops in the Netmail conference are also allowed to do 'Crash', 'File Attach' and 'File Request' operations. Be sure, to type in the full directory path that the file is in. It is the repsoniblity of the sysop to ensure the Filenames are correct, exist, and syntax is correct. Display Help Documention This Command will print out the SMLNet.TXT file onto the screen. (What you are reading now.) GoodBye!! Quit Program Return to BBS Change Foreground Text color for example, have the characters White instead of [default] Cyan. Extract Messages Somewhat similar to Read Messages but all specified messages are appended to the eXtract file. (downloadable). Smlnet will not allow a remote user to create an 'extract' file that is bigger then the time needed to download the file. BUT, it will allow the remote user to download the 'extract' file no matter how much time he has left. The 'Extract' file is always re-started upon startup of Smlnet program and call also be re-started when the extract file has been downloaded. Download the Extract file You can choose to have your extract file squished by packers such as ARC, PKPAK, LHARC, or PKZIP. Though, of course, you can just download the straight text file. For the Download process: SmlNet Shells to a program called DSZ.COM by Chuck Forzberg. If you haven't ever tried DSZ.COM, then please treat yourself to this excellent Communication program. Zmodem is excellant over the long distance lines! I encourage you to register DSZ.COM for it is the best file transfer program so far as I have seen in ShareWare. You can choose Xmodem, Ymodem (1K Packet), or Zmodem for Transfers. After selecting the Protocal (xmodem, ...) then you would toggle your communication program to download the file. If you wish to abort the download, you must type in a dozen CTRL-X for DSZ.COM to recognize your abort. Now... you can read all your mail offline... Check for new messages Question: Check all conferences (Y/[N]) ? Pressing Q or ESC will abort the New Message search. If Smlnet is actively checking a conference, then it will return to the Main menu once it is done processing the current conference. Answer: N or Enter Smlnet will check thru only conferences that are on your 'sequence' list. If you select this option, you will also be given a prompt that will to ask if all unread mail should be extracted so that you can then download it. In this mode, you can also tell Smlnet to download your new mail when it finds some in each conference. Answer: Y Smlnet will then search thru All conferences that you have access to. ==== End of SmlNet Caller Doc SmlNet.Txt ====
