Here's why: ThreadZ Software Design Group, Inc., makers of File F/X utilities for Microsoft Windows 3.0, and METZ Software, makers of shareware applications for Windows, have announced their intention to form a joint venture. The first step of this new relationship is the renaming of ThreadZ to METZ Software, effective May 1, 1991. There are two reasons for the merger and name change. First, while doing business internationally, ThreadZ discovered a company named Threadz, Limited that was also developing for Windows. To avoid confusion, we decided to act quickly and change our name now. The second, but maybe most important reason, is to form a company which reacts quickly to user needs - like a shareware company can - but with technical support and marketing offerings more directly aligned with the needs of a retail audience. The new company will retain its commitment to support METZ Software's installed shareware base. It will also, however, allow us to bring more and better products to market - in a timely and real problem- solving manner. ThreadZ File F/X, now called METZ File F/X, incorporates two METZ Software shareware applications - Desktop Navigator and METZ Task Manager - and combines them with Text Search, File Find and Undelete utilities. The reception it has encountered is incredible: On February 26, 1991, PC Magazine bestowed the Editor's Choice award on METZ Task Manager (included in File F/X); that was after the First Looks review of File F/X read "In Short: a wonderful Task Manager and four other useful utilities makes this a must-buy for Windows users" (PC Magazine, 1/29/91). In a recent review, InfoWorld's Editor-in-Chief Michael Miller said: "Among the Windows-specific file managers, File F/X stands out for its relatively clean design and its ease of use" (InfoWorld, 4/22/91). And the headline read THREADZ FILE MANAGER RESCUES FRUSTRATED WINDOWS USERS. We could go on for hours with wonderful quotes, but you've probably been reading them yourself. If you have any questions about how File F/X can benefit you, please contact our customer service office at 800-767-6292 or 206-869-6292. In celebration of the name change, registered users of METZ Software's shareware solutions may take advantage of a special $49.95 offer for File F/X. File F/X normally retails for $129.95, so you'll be saving over $75! To participate in this special offer, please contact METZ Software directly (800-767-6292 or 206-869-6292) and provide your registration number. Valid 5/1/91 through 6/30/91 ONLY. Visit METZ Software at Spring COMDEX Windows World in Atlanta, GA, May 20-23, 1991, and at PC EXPO in New York, June 25-27, 1991. Sincerely, Art Metz The files contained on the enclosed disk are self extracting archive files. By creating these files this way, we can provide more programs and files on one diskette and you can un-archive them without any special tools. The following files on the enclosed disk: DLR.EXE - METZ Dialer DN.EXE - METZ Desktop Navigator DT.EXE - METZ Desktop Manager FM.EXE - METZ Freemem LK.EXE - METZ Lock LKBETA.EXE - METZ Lock 3.0 Beta MTM.EXE - METZ Task Manager PH.EXE - METZ Phones RNR.EXE - METZ Runner TM.EXE - METZ Time Simply run the desired self extracting archive to extract it's contents. For example, to extract the METZ Task Manager files, copy MTM.EXE to your disk drive, then type MTM. The contents of MTM.EXE will be extracted and you will be prompted before any files already on your drive will be replaced. MTM.EXE does not delete itself. We recommend extracting these files from the DOS prompt rather than from within Windows. NOTE: Please back up the file TASKMAN.EXE that is in your Windows directory before unarchiving METZ Task Manager. For best results, the following files should be placed directly in your Windows directory: TASKMAN.EXE, METZ.DLL, and METZDLL.EXE. You may pass copies of this disk on to your friends and associates, and upload these archived files to bulletin boards. Any license numbers you receive are for your personal use only, please do not give them to anyone else. Special thanks to Haruyasu Yoshizaki for providing this self-extracting file format.
